Buy this offfseason. Our minors has 1 wave of talent close but cannot create a powerhouse by itself

Currently our system projects a few key contributors in the short term but no waves of massive talent after that. Hopefully a player here and there over the years ahead but nothing worth putting our MLB team on hold for and waiting past 2026 for.

McGreevey - ready now. Projects as SP but not a star
JJW - ready 2026. Maybe this Sept. projects as possible star but not a MOTO corner bat.
Doyle- projects as SP hopefully. Could be ready sometime in 2026. Not like anyone will be blocking him
Matthews/Hence/Roby - not really sure what they will end up bringing but they’ve spent a year at AAA (or 3 years at AA in Hences case), so if they can get healthy and get their control together seems like by 2026 they could be as ready as they ever will be.

But behind this group there’s no 70 grade Ethan Holliday type who’s 3-4 years away who can change the direction of the franchise. Just a normal progression of decent players, at best, to replace any production lost from injury or FA etc in 27, 28 etc. and we aren’t going to get a 70 grade prospect for Mikolas or even from trading Helsley. So all that said, our timeline for the reset needs to end in 2026 and start spending wisely again. There’s lots of money coming off the books, plenty of dry powder, enough holes that need to be filled, and the majority of our high level prospects look to promote by April or sometime next year so there’s nothing to be gained by waiting longer to fill out the team around them. We have finite timelines for producers like Donny, Winn, also Gray and Willson are under contract. Don’t waste any more of those years after our next wave of prospects arrive by not competing, because there’s not enough else worth waiting on any longer.

2025 made sense to a point. Now we know what we have and what we don’t. And we know we need to fill some
Spots from outside and we know we will get some help from them system. Blooms job will be to put it altogether, fast, and put a real roster on the field at the same time, not 3 years from now when we will have lost the few keepers we have currently.

I see almost no way they spend this offseason. They’re gonna play out 2026. Bloom might target a couple of young guys for extensions.

They’re gonna hope to come out of a labor stoppage ready to go. They really need Wetherholt to be great… and Baez being good would be huge.

The new guys need to salvage Gorman or Walker.

It doesn’t have to be all free agents on long-term contracts. In fact, it can’t be because there won’t be enough available. Could be a short term veteran signing like we did with Beltran or a trade for controllable player, giving away players that we have a surplus of at catcher or middle infield or trading a few B level prospects for arbitration player whose team is too cheap to pay him.

There’s plenty of room to improve here, but it’s not going to come from just dumping Payroll and not replacing it. There’s a perfectly logical middleground where we can afford payroll in the upper 100s or at least well north of 150M and then count on the minors to produce some key contributions as well.
