Physicality

Post by lefthook »

Is there anyone in our system who is physically intimidating?
Tyler Tucker sure gives it a try, but he's a middleweight at best.

Neighbours is developing into a better chirping version of Schenn. He’s respected and he’s good at it. When guys like Bennett don’t like you on the ice, you’re doing you’re doing something.

Mail will hopefully develop into a pietrangelo with his stick (in terms of being hard on people) and have a good showing in a couple fights this year.

Parayko was great physically this year

Then the obvious ones like Schenn and some role guys

With Snuggerud, Holloway, and Neighbours you have a winger on each line that could potentially score 30 goals while also bringing physicality. Then you have Walker who may not score a ton, but can be a 4th line wrecking ball.

Snuggerud was super shy and not physical at all. You could tell he was intimidated at times

My surprise player this year is Zack Dean. After one of his goals, when he came back for the tail-end of the T-Bird season and the sadly abbreviated playoffs- he kept skating past the goalie and decked a defender... in celebration. He ain't very big. But he is smart and will play tough.

It could be argued that Dean used his injury time wisely, coming back so strong from a long layoff that he was their best player the last week of the regular season and the MVP in the Thunderbird's three game loss in the playoffs.

Doesn't seem like we have an Olivier, Deslauriers or Tom Wilson in our system. Or someone like one of the Tkachuk boys, or a Jamie Benn. No one of that ilk.

Anyone care to opine if we could use in today's game.

They should have shown up when Kryou got nailed by Stanley.

We don't have an enforcer.

No one has an "enforcer" anymore. It's an old concept.

The most physical games in the first round last year was the Blues & Jets. The Blues were hitting everything. Having your best players play to that level of physicality is how teams win. Monty has the right idea and the players are buying in.

Now with the Mailloux and Bjugstad, the Blues are bigger. The team is trending in the right direction.

Enforcers are a dying breed, but they aren't gone yet.
Montreal(Xhekaj), NY(Rempe), Nashville(McCarron) and Boston(Kastelic) still carry one.
