Are you trading Noot Or Donnie?

Post by bfib »

In this scenario, one has to go to make way for JJ.

Do you trade Noot (oft injured, underperforming) or Donnie (good player, better return)?

In the right deal, both should be available.

Noot would he a very low sell so I’d say no and hope for improvement next season. Could be a late bloomer.

Donovan is the last guy I’d want to trade but if complete sell off ends up being the decision, then he’s the first one I’d trade due to his value.

The selling low for lottery tickets netted nothing from a few years ago. Jordan Montgomery should’ve netted something but didn’t.

Yeah, obviously Noot is the guy you’d rather lose at this point but it’s exactly as you say. Selling low. Donnie has significant value at this point.

Tough decision really

I would trade Nootbaar. The return now will be low. But he is an injury prone gimmick.

Rather than be too concerned over what the return is on the trade, I'd question over results of which trade makes us a better team.
So are we better ending up with JJ and Donnie, or with JJ and Noot?

Trade Noot and Arenado. Primarily, Walker RF, Burleson LF, Donovan 2B, Gorman 3B, Herrera DH for the rest of the season. See what you have in Walker and Gorman. Wetherholt is on the way at 2B or 3B. Donnie can move to LF, Burly to RF, if needed.

Oversimplified way to look at it imo

I'm mostly with you. But seems like its getting pretty late for Noot to start blooming. He will be 28 this year. 29 sometime next year. This should be his prime.

Deals that need to be made at the deadline:
1. Helsley
2. Matz
Both are expiring contracts that have trade value.

Deals that should be considered at the deadline:
1. One of Nootbaar or Burleson.
2. Maton (if return is good).

Deals that could be considered if the return is GREAT:
1. Donovan (unpopular......but if the return is a haul.. ).
2. Gray (should net multiple prospects).

There were teams that Arenado would accept a trade to. There may be more now. Obviously, the Cardinals would need to eat quite some salary. It's time for Mo to do some serious negotiating to open up some room in the lineup. Namely, for Gorman and Wetherholt pretty soon.
