GP did excellent job rebooting a mostly dead program at MU but he definitely is in second tier of coaches as he never even won a conference championship. Nice that his teams twice were one game away from getting to NC game but lost both times in winnable games. Truly a blue collar coach.

Interesting that they have Barry Odom on couple of these lists. guess his time at UNLV really elevated his standings but it was statistical mostly. Will be following how he does at Purdue in the hyper competitive B1G.

How will IN do this year? HC had a very favorable schedule and had great run until it got down to short strokes at the end and his team got whacked pretty good and wasn't competitive when it counted.

How will Kalen do at Bama? IMO Smart is the better HC and he reloaded bigly and should be the dog of SEC again.

THE OSU in B1G? Day caught lightning in bottle and with Huge NIL push bought himself a great team but can he win the B1G again? OR is LOADED and spent a lot of money in TP and buying top HS talent plus IMO Lanning is the better HC.

Just nice to be talking CFB in July.

Yes it is.

Pinkel was a fine coach and getting his team to the SEC championship right after entering the conference did a lot to give Missouri credibility with the other teams and fans.

Most predictions I've seen have Texas and Georgia 1 and 2.

Ohio State won't lap the field with talent like they did last year but they're still elite. As you said, Oregon (and Lanning) will be right there. I've been surprised by the people picking Penn State.

Clemson is my dark horse pick to win the whole thing. They have the coach, QB, and edge studs. They open with LSU at home.

There's a reason wins are mentioned before losses.

Statistics are in the eye of the beholder.

Don't forget - best performance vs. historic baseline. Mizzou was absolute (bleep) after the Colorado 5th down game. From '84 (Powers last year) through 2002 (Pinkel's second year) they only had two winning seasons in 19 years (7-5 and 8-4 in '97 and '98 for Larry Smith) and lost something like 64 more games than they won.

So with a baseline like that to compare to, Pinkel did a wonderful job. Just think how much better he may have done if he remained sober.
