Some out of the box considerations as the trade deadline looms

Post by Shady »

As the trade deadline nears. As he should be, I'm sure Mo is contemplating long and hard as to what to do with both Walker and Gorman. Has Herrera and Burleson made Walker expendable? And has Wetherholt made Gorman expendable?

Those aren’t outside of the box considerations.

Yes they are. Considering possibly giving up on two highly touted prospects that are still young and could still develop into dynamic players for the organization.

People have already talked about that on here on almost a daily basis. It’s been brought up numerous times.

My out of the box idea is trading Burleson to a contender for a RH AAA OF who will ready by '26. If that's out of the box.

Players such as Lars Nootbaar, Alec Burleson and Herrera (when healthy) will be priorities. Nolan Gorman and Jordan Walker can also work their way back into that equation. This suggests that if the Cardinals do shop the market, it would likely be for a rental bat.

“I don’t think we’re ever going to take away from the guys we’re trying to see play,” Mozeliak said.

Maybe it actually does mean what he thinks it means. He has a box with written ideas of threads to start and this was the topic he pulled out of the box today at this moment.

Seriously, could either Walker or Gorman bring some decent pitching prospects? If not, maybe attaching one to a deal (maybe with Helsley) to try to get a quality return. I would hope Mo would also consider seeing what he could get for Nootbaar, too. If he succeeds in trading Noot, Then give Church a chance.

I think you could see Gorman traded, IMO a classic "change of scenery" is needed for him, and probably for the Cardinals.

I think they would love a power bat (right-handed) who is close to the big leagues, but doesn't everybody? The problem is we really don't have much to trade. I am not ready to give up on Walker yet.

Helsley will get you a little something. Fedde/Mikolas/Matz/Luken Baker I think don't get you much of anything. Maybe trade Maton?

Dangle Helsley or Maton to the Phillies and see if you could get Aroon Escobar (2B/3B) back, but not sure that helps us clean up the future infield jam.
Josue De Paula from the Dodgers would be a great get, young OF with power and speed. The Dodgers have OF's for days so maybe they would part with him?
Maybe see if Arenado would approve a trade to the Angels? They are 2 games under .500, but gets him to California.

All doubtful, just throwing stuff on the wall to see if anything sticks. ha ha :P

Walker and Gorman have made Walker and Gorman expendable. I’m not sure giving up on them now is the best option but their lack of production over the last couple of years is the reason you are even having this conversation.

Blasphemy. Burly is the savior of this franchise.
