Do you forsee Bloom trading Donovan over the winter ?
Speculation starting that Brendan Donovan may be on the Atros radar at trade deadline as well as Yankees . Some think Mo would not make a blockbuster on the way out the door as POBO. (He would defer that decision to Bloom after Mo departs .)

Astros rumor: https://sports.yahoo.com/article/cardin ... 12986.html
With both 2026 & 2027 years remaining , Donovan is cost-controlled for two more years (whatever he gets in arbitration ).
For those who are of the philosophy, trade a player while he is at his highest value prior to losing him his free agency year , Donnie fits that right now.
He garnered All Star honors plus was the only player garnering 2 hits . He has earned a Gold Glove and is versatile other than 2nd base too .
3rd highest batting average.
For Donovan currently , there would be a king's ransom for a player his caliber. Bloom could get quite the haul . Some MLB Radio talk said Bloom more likely since he has JJ Wetherholt to play 2nd base in 2026 and beyond
So what are you thinking ? If Donovan isn't traded in a surprise move at the deadline, do you forsee Bloom trading Donovan over the winter ?
Yes or No
Important note : The question did NOT ask if YOU would trade Donovan this winter but rather if you feel Bloom would do so.
You may say YES Bloom will but I hope he does not . No, Bloom will not but I hope he does .

Re: Do you forsee Bloom trading Donovan over the winter ?
Very good possibility. Made that comment in a thread yesterday. He would bring back a bigger return than most if not all of the other realistic options and an in-house replacement seems to be available. Further only 2 more years on team control and the second year could involve a lengthy lock out or strike.
Re: Do you forsee Bloom trading Donovan over the winter ?
Option A - trade Donovan. AS with mid level salary for 2 more years of control
Option B - trade JJW - MLB ready by spring, high potential, very high trade value
Option C - trade Winn - Proven MLB SS. 4 years control remaining, unsure of realizable trade value in a market where a lot of top teams already have an elite SS around the same age
Option D - Trade Saggese - probably just filler in a larger trade
what do you do? None of them have that 100 RBI Rolen/Glaus type Moto bat we need at 3b and LF to get our offense to the next level. And 2b/SS is only 2 starting spots.

Of those you do option A or D. Maybe both. You make Winn/Wetherholt our middle infield for the next 6-8 years+++Carp4Cy wrote: ↑17 Jul 2025 15:40 pm Option A - trade Donovan. AS with mid level salary for 2 more years of control

The question was do you see Bloom trading Donovan this winter ? not the overall trade strategy of others.Carp4Cy wrote: ↑17 Jul 2025 15:40 pm Option A - trade Donovan. AS with mid level salary for 2 more years of control

I don’t see the Cardinals trading Donovan but he isn’t untouchable. It’s always about the return. What would Houston, or anyone for that matter, be willing to give us to acquire Donovan.
Re: Do you forsee Bloom trading Donovan over the winter ?
It'd seem a big departure from what we're used to, which has been on the conservative side.
Currently assuming they trade Arenado, I have Donovan slated for 3B in 2026, so I'd guess no.
Maybe the coming Bloom experience will be much different.

Re: Do you forsee Bloom trading Donovan over the winter ?
I've heard discussions from enough Yankee fans to know that they covet Donovan. He's been a household name level trade target for them.
Re: Do you forsee Bloom trading Donovan over the winter ?
The team has a major issue with roster construction.
Five second basemen: Donovan, Gorman (not really, but they play him there); Wetherholt; Sagesse; Fermin.
Six+ catchers.
One legit 3b and he is expensive and over-the-hill offensively.
OF - no one who does well.
They need changes to fix this. Everyone is on the block insofar as listening to offers.

Fair. I see him doing one of these listed. Whether its Donovan? I don't really know Bloom yet to guess.ramfandan wrote: ↑17 Jul 2025 15:43 pmThe question was do you see Bloom trading Donovan this winter ? not the overall trade strategy of others.Carp4Cy wrote: ↑17 Jul 2025 15:40 pm Option A - trade Donovan. I would hope not, Noot is who should be getting traded.
Re: Do you forsee Bloom trading Donovan over the winter ?
Trade Donovan for Jones then? Trade walker or gorman or others for Suarez?ClassicO wrote: ↑17 Jul 2025 16:27 pm The team has a major issue with roster construction.

Re: Do you forsee Bloom trading Donovan over the winter ?
I can see it happening.
Wetherholt would slide into the 2B position and the return for Donovan and probably another player/prospect would be a corner OF'er who actually can hit and play the position and not be a part-time infielder.
What the Cardinals would have to spend in arbitration or in a long term deal to sign Donovan cojld be used at least in part to pay for the OF'er coming back in a trade.
A corner OF MOB is this teams most pressing need in the lineup and Donovan would likely be part of the asking price.
