Reinbacher was the first dman taken in the '23 draft (#5 overall). He might be a very good player some day. So far, he hasn't played a game in the NHL. He has played 21 games in the AHL.
The Blues picked Dvorsky (possibly future 2C, Stenberg (trending well), and Lindstein (possible future top 4 dman) in the 1st round of that same draft.
The '23 draft is the one our OP is lamenting because we did not tank at the end to get a top 5 pick that would have changed our retool drastically. Put Reinbacher in our system instead of Dvorsky and how much better are we?
Sure. Let's discuss that.
With Reinbacher, we don't need to trade for another elite RHD. We have one.
We trade Bolduc and our #1 for one of the many centers drafted at the same time or after Dvorsky who are already playing in the NHL.

As it stands, we have no 2C, no RHD, and no Bolduc

He's elite? He hasn't played an NHL game yet. He has only played 21 Ahl games and he's an elite NHL dman?
What #1 are we trading along with Bolduc to get the supposed upgrade on Dvorsky? Are you talking about trading the draft pick that is now Carbonneau?

Don't like Reinbacher, eh? Are you aware that Montreal graded him higher than Mailloux? The Blues couldn't get Reinbacher for Bolduc. Reinbacher is #39 on TOP100 prospects, drafted in 2023. Mailloux is #70 drafted in 2021.

Look. We DON'T know if Reinbacher, Mailloux, Bolduc, Dvorsky, or Carbonneau are going to be any good. It doesn't matter where any of them are ranked at this point. You think you know stuff. Nobody KNOWS this kind of stuff. It has to play out. Let it play out.
1st overall Nail Yakupov scored 62 goals in 350 NHL games. He was not a good NHL player. Nobody KNOWS. I'll say it again ... Let it play out.

Should we use the Perunovich model? Promise, promise, promise. Hope, hope, hope. Book the outbound train, and blow kisses. Blame it on the Perunovich for just not having the right stuff. Army is blamless because he was a Hobey Baker after all.

Hmm Zack Bolduc isnt a question mark? Odd opinion to have based on the reality of Bolduc's career so far:
AHL 54 GP 8 goals.....
NHL '23-'24 25 GP 5 goals 4 assists (three goals in three games 4/7-12)
NHL '24-25' 72 GP 19 goals 17 assists (0 Goals first 19 GAMES PLAYED; 19 Goals in 55 GAMES PLAYED ALL UNDER MONTY) 7 PPGs...
NHL '24-'25 PLAYOFFS 0 Goals in 7 games
That screams question mark to some degree unless like i said he can bring Monty with him to Montreal. Does Bolduc click with St Louis as HC is Dach a good enough center.
Will Bolduc get #1 unit PP time or will he get reduced 2nd unit PP time.
I've said i think Bolduc will be a lock for 20-25 goals in the NHL this season, next season who cares.
Once Mailloux settles in to his NHL career in St Louis this is a big trade win for Army because all things being equal in the NHL the big, RHD has far more value than another LW which the Blues franchise is loaded with already. No brainer
This is as good an answer as there is to give. I loved Bolduc. But on a team that has plenty of wingers, he was worth the risk to pick up a likely top 4D and a win. If L.M manages to be a top 2D then this is an big win for the Blues.
As long as Mailloux is a 3rd pairing NHL RHD or better (which is my guess eventually may take 100 NHL games) then Army won the trade, plain and simple. A true RHD dman with Maillouxs tools is worth more than a LW for the Blues because the Blues have Holloway, Snuggerud, Neighbours then Stenberg, Carbonneau and who knows who else. The trade will be judged for me whether really Snuggerud is better than Bolduc or not because on the RW side where Bolduc was playing the Blues decided Bolduc was expendable. If after a season or two Snuggerud is not as good as Bolduc then we can legitimately review this trade. I say this because Mailloux is going to be a 3rd pairing RHD man at the least which is exactly what the Blues organization needed.

Oddly the only player on your list i dont feel 100% about is Dvorsky. Idk why but i need to see him do it in the NHL at least. The others i think are going to be solid NHLers at some point

Dvorsky's skating? I think at worst he's a pretty good scoring NHL winger. I'm less sure about LM and Carbo ... LM's processing on the defensive end and Carbo ... because he has played guys who are not as developed as him. But I see the huge upside in all the guys I listed.

In that same poll Dvorsky is ranked 38th, so the Blues outdrafted the Habs, right? Same draft they drafted 5th and took the guy ranked behind the guy that was taken 5 spots later. Isn’t that the way it goes, ASOGG?

True. My bad. Dvorsky’s jersey sales only count if they make it to Goodwill.
