Blues Ranked 20th in offseason moves

This means that they believe that most other teams improved more significantly.

20. St. Louis Blues
Net Rating added: -1

In: Pius Suter, Nick Bjugstad, Logan Mailloux
Out: Zack Bolduc, Radek Faksa, Nick Leddy, Ryan Suter

St. Louis’ placement here is not a product of what seems like a decent summer, but rather the lack of a projection for Logan Mailloux. The young defender played just seven chaotic games for Montreal last year and it wouldn’t be fair to judge what he can do based on that data. In theory, he’s the exact kind of defender the Blues need: one who can bring a lot of offense from the blue line.

In practice, though, Mailloux is a giant question mark. Zack Bolduc isn’t — he looks like a potentially strong top-six player with defensive upside. The difference there is what colors the Blues’ placement here. If Mailloux can be as impactful as Bolduc already is, the Blues would shoot up considerably. That’s still a big if at this juncture, but at the very least, it was probably a worthy bet considering St. Louis’ surplus of winger talent. The presence of Jimmy Snuggerud for a full season should help offset the loss of Bolduc internally.

Aside from that, it’s easy to like what the Blues did nabbing Pius Suter and Nick Bjugstad. Those two considerably bolster the team’s center depth, with the latter being a notable upgrade over Radek Faksa.

No, actually it means other teams perhaps made bigger splashes in the water. Some will still be treading water.

I confirmed in my 2nd grade math book. "-1" is moving backward on a continuum.

If you read the summary, they thought the Mailloux trade was a big risk, potentially a very bad idea.

The Blues have won 30 more games than any other team in the Western Conference since DA became GM in 2010. Don't kill the messenger.
Do I agree with all of his moves? No. Does he have more information and knowledge about this team and its prospects than anyone on this board? Yes.

And the Sharks were rated #1. So what? Do you like their chances this year? You insufferable schmuck.

What they didn't mention in their summary, so I will add.

The Blues had surplus at winger, but that doesn't mean that the Bolduc trade was a smart thing.

Did we trade away the best of the surplus, or the least? Bolduc was starting. Our other prospects are far more unknown.

Should we have gotten more for Bolduc? Mailloux was Montreal's 4th-best RHD. How elite can he be, really?

I consider this more fallout of not having a TOP5 pick. When you need elite skill at a position, and you will never be able to get that player via the draft (because you don't draft TOP5), you and everyone else knows the desperate position that you are in. Army is desperate for an elite 2C and RHD.

Moving forward:
Forget the thought that WE DON"T NEED TOP5 talent. Army has shown us in several ways now that the roster is lacking in that area. Instead, ask yourself.... how is Army doing at getting a great 2C and a great RHD? This offseason we got neither-very likely.

And the Fla Panthers were #23 ... we should expect a pretty big decline?

The Blackhawks are 88 games below .500 and minus 350 in goal differential over the past 4 seasons. Now that's how you get top 5 picks. It's easy.

The experts claimed the Predators won the off season last summer, how'd that end up?

I think espn gave the Blues a B+...if you like rankings.

I get what appears obvious.....I expect Bolduc to carry on with his progress. I love Zac Bolducs game but that's not the determining factor in how this trade works out.

It's about Mailloux filling a huge hole because of this Blues staff evaluation of who he can be....and being right.

Winning the offseason is not the same as winning the regular season. Some need the accompanying study aid.

So dhsux is counting on the team that created the huge hole to fix the huge hole.

So dhsux is counting on the team that drafted Jiricek to fill the huge hole last year to fix the huge hole with Mailloux this year.

dhsux is heaping praise on the gang that can't shoot straight, and putting full faith in them.

My recommendation:
Be skeptical of Army fixing RHD. He deserves it. Let's hope that he gets it right this time, but if he does, it will be a miracle.

Then why start a thread focusing on how other view our offseason?
You wasted your time...and you look foolish doing it.

Teams make progress (or not) in the offseason. Making progress is a good thing, and BluesTalkers benefit from knowing how well others think that the Blues are doing in that regard.
