Take emotion out of it. They fired a local brand name they will never have again.
Comparing Wilson, who I really liked, to Kelly is a non starter. Other than both being fired....the WHY of it is night and day.
Wilson burned bridges left and right. Then a KELLY, the son of recently deceased Dan, came along.
duh....what do we do? I get that.
Not this.

They say it's not about money but then in the next sentence use phrases like "streamlining operations" which is just business speak for making things cheaper. Whatever.
Re: Bernie Miklasz weighs in on John Kelly's firing
I'm very sad over this. If you don't think JK mattered much spend some time watching the broadcasts.of other teams, or look around Atlanta for the Thrashers.
Re: Bernie Miklasz weighs in on John Kelly's firing
I have Sirius XM radio and listen to quite a few non-Blues games. I get a kick out of those who say "Kerber is terrible" or "Kelly is terrible". They obviously haven't heard the many, truly awful play by play announcers out there. Some are worse than finger nails on a chalk board! We've been extremely lucky to have two excellent play by play guys in Kerber and Kelly.

People tend to forget that JK was publicly gunning for Wilson's job.Lone_Ranger wrote: ↑16 Jul 2025 09:12 am That's business. Business is cruel. It was a bush league move to begin with when Kelly was brought in and Ken Wilson got the boot. What goes around comes around. That's the way it goes.

Name a business that fires a guy who spent almost his whole life and career with said company right before retirement age.Lone_Ranger wrote: ↑16 Jul 2025 09:12 am That's business. Business is cruel. It doesn't happen, normally. Because that would be a publicity nightmare. Only certain types would do that. Is this Blues management that type.

That sort of happened to Wilson, ignominiously run out by the 'old guard' & the aforementioned John Kelly. I'm not hatin' on JK, just noting the karmic aspect of this situation, about which I don't really care. I've listened to a lot of other folks on ESPN+ and haven't found many of them to be too odious.Cahokanut wrote: ↑16 Jul 2025 11:33 amName a business that fires a guy who spent almost his whole life and career with said company right before retirement age.Lone_Ranger wrote: ↑16 Jul 2025 09:12 am That's business. I don't remember how long Wilson was there. Cause he sucked and I'd listen to Kelly on the radio.

Did he ? I thought Dan Kelly died. This is news to me. But at any rate, it reinforces the law of the jungle motif, don't it ?Cahokanut wrote: ↑16 Jul 2025 11:45 amWell Wilson did that to Dan Kelly.MikoTython wrote: ↑16 Jul 2025 11:38 amThat sort of happened to Wilson, ignominiously run out by the 'old guard' & the aforementioned John Kelly. No Wilson replaced Kelly on channel 11. But Dan still did the Radio. You must of not been around. Because at the time. That seemed bigMikoTython wrote: ↑16 Jul 2025 11:47 amDid he ? Wrong. Wilson partnered with DK on channel 11. He absolutely didn't "replace" Kelly. DK died....Cahokanut wrote: ↑16 Jul 2025 11:50 amNo Wilson replaced Kelly on channel 11. Kelly did radio, Ken was doing TV
As a kid, and having to watch the TV while trying to hear the radio. Dad kept by his ear. It seemed like a big deal to me. When Wilson started doing tv.

Re: Bernie Miklasz weighs in on John Kelly's firing
I personally think it was classless of the Blues to fire JK, and yes he was fired. That said, simulcasts suck. Different styles are required for radio and television, either the listener, the viewer, or both will ultimately suffer.

Couldn't agree more.dhsux wrote: ↑16 Jul 2025 08:46 am For me, this one goes down as one of the worst moves of the franchise but it's possibly the worst because of how simple it was to do the right thing.
What kind of salary delta are we talking here between Kerbs and Kelly?? Who's great idea was this? It's as dumb as a brick to say nothing of being totally classless.
And Kelly's age, whatever that means, is more reason to keep him than dump him.
Can't express how disappointed I am in Stillman and the Blues. Total Sh11t show guys.
Admit it and fix it.
Never thought the Blues would stoop to this level.
The broadcast will now be a total joke.
Why not...ownership has proven to be the same.
Re: Bernie Miklasz weighs in on John Kelly's firing
I'll repeat what I wrote previously for those who may not have read it: The fan's worst nightmare is when Kerber is unable to do a broadcast(he missed a series of games last season) and FanDual scrounges around for a substitute for a game or two here and there during the long season. That may be painful, particularly if the replacement is a DEI hire. Some of us already complain because of the generic/ neutral voices of national broadcasters and color"men". To me the broadcast must be entertaining, One of the posters disagreed with me (his opinion). The play on the ice is enhanced by the announcers, or should be in my opinion.
I came up with my solution:: Kerber is a fine announcer, but apologize to John Kelly (a St Louis institution) and rotate these two men so we always have a professional homer announcer who loves the team and assures we don't get these scrub substitutes.
