Post Draft Promotions and Cuts

07/16/25 RHP Brandt Thompson assigned to Peoria Chiefs from Palm Beach Cardinals.
07/16/25 LHP Braden Davis assigned to Peoria Chiefs from Palm Beach Cardinals.
07/16/25 LHP Michael Watson assigned to Springfield Cardinals from Peoria Chiefs.
07/16/25 RHP Cade Winquest assigned to Springfield Cardinals from Peoria Chiefs.

I believe they expect some of the new draft picks will be starting the last two months....that is most different indeed....or they feel they have several FCL pitchers capable of starting...that's funny

Winquest to Springfield...Henderson or Rajcic will likely be promoted. Not sure on both, but I feel 1 definitely will...or at least should be promoted.

side note on a prospect in the DSL....Branneli Franco started throwing in game around 12 days ago....5 games in, 7 IP, only 2 walks, ERA is 2.57. Granted he hasn't started any games like he did last year...so there's no chance for his arm to be jelly at the end the day, thus inflating his walk and ER totals....it's clearly an improvement this season.

He's a prospect were excited about when he was signed 18 months ago. We'll see how things go next year when he's stateside. 6'3", 187lbs, 18yo

Nice to see, I think he was a top 30 org prospect by MLB pre season. Not sure if he was on the updated top 30 or not.

Still lost as to why they signed Matzek, at the time I figured possible bullpen guy but he's been injured since we acquired him, youd have to think hes back soon. Cannot wait until Plesac no longer pitches.

Any hope in Winquest ever touching the Majors?

I haven't seen anything that tells me he can be a starter in the Majors. It's not that he doesn't do anything bad, except for give up runs. His BAA is okay. His WHIP is okay. His HR against is really good. His Walks per/9 could be better as a starter, but it's not horrible. His problem is that he will allow those walks to score, so his ERA will always be in the mid to upper 4's, lower 5's. He doesn't K alot of people, he's more of a ground ball guy it seems....56% GB rate is plus for him.

His future is in the BP...that'll probably get him a 3-5 year career in the Majors.

He has to improve immensely over the next 2-3 seasons to make it as a starter....I don't see it happening

I was at the Peoria game on Sunday for Winquest's last start. He looked really good. His stuff was good. Upper 90's fastball, with a sharp breaker. He looked focused and looked like a guy ready to battle out there. They took him out inexplicably in the 5th with an 8-0 lead, which they quickly squandered and lost 10-8 in extras.

Only time seeing him in person, but I was impressed. He stood out a lot more than any other pitcher that pitched.

24 years old in 5 months. I don't know, ClassicO?? I guess swap him and Honeyman?

Does Davis gain anything out of the demotion? Baez did, but he was a fresh 21 when he was demoted last year.

I want to trade him and wash my hands of him. Honeyman can hit, Church seems to be able to hit. Maybe Mitchell will be able to hit?

Davis gives you all out defense and highlight reel catches...but that's it. Trade him now, there's still some value there for another team.

I posted on this 2 or 3 weeks ago: Jack Findlay....I hope they put him the starting rotation after the ASB. Now there's plenty of room available for just that. He's been a long reliever off and on this season. Struggled out of the gate beyond 10 pitches...slowly got better, but still struggled a bit in his 2nd inning of work. Shown some flashes in June, but nothing consistent outing to outing.

Keep in mind, he hadn't pitched since April 2023. Drafted last year by the Cards, but he didn't see a competitive game until Spring Training 2025.

I want him in the rotation at PMB this weekend or next week for the rest of the season. He's being paid way too much to be a reliever. And the stuff is supposedly top notch before the TJ surgery

Findlay's story will be told next year, it would be nice to build up a bit this late summer, but next year the cards will be revealed
