+1 I was all for giving him every chance to be a starter but at this point it’s fairly obvious they will never be able to build him up to be a starter. Try him as a reliever he probably won’t be able to stay healthy there either but it would be dumb to keep him as a starter at this pointClubmaker2 wrote: ↑15 Jul 2025 19:38 pmWhat is the other choice? He is hurt so much its not like he can really build up a solid pitch count of starts to be a solid innings eating starter. And, you can't possibly set up a roster counting on him as one of your five starters. Just a bullpen guy available if he happens to not be on the ILBrockFloodMaris wrote: ↑15 Jul 2025 19:00 pmYes, because as we all know, being an MLB relief pitcher is such a physical walk in the park. Fewer innings, yes. Warming up four times a week. Getting into three games a week. Full exertion in every pitch. Sounds easy to me.

Exactly. His days as a starter should be over. Not his fault. Just wasn't blessed with a body that can withstand the rigors of professional baseball. Last chance as a reliever. He either can do that or probably flunks out for good.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑15 Jul 2025 21:12 pm+1 I was all for giving him every chance to be a starter but at this point it’s fairly obvious they will never be able to build him up to be a starter. Suspects not "prospects".
Right now you could say that about any pitcher in the organization below the ML level.
Anyone who believes otherwise is just fooling themselves.

Why is Roby's injury "unspecified" and "undisclosed"?
Re: Roby and Hence Injured Again
Maybe he’s a superhero and they’re keeping his identity unknown. Just Cardinals luck his superpower has nothing to do with baseball!
Re: Roby and Hence Injured Again
actually tons of pitchers who were starters with good stuff but dont hold up physically end up dominant BP arms...BrockFloodMaris wrote: ↑15 Jul 2025 19:00 pmYes, because as we all know, being an MLB relief pitcher is such a physical walk in the park. They probably don't know. Or doing their usual "lets hope it heals itself" before having the surgery he needs. This organization loves wasting time with this approach.

Brilliant observation, deadbeat. Try adding something productive to the discussion.

Yes, but we are not talking about tons of pitchers. We are talking about Tink Hence. Tink has only been able to log 257 innings in five years in MiLB. The internet has lost track of how many times he has been on the IL and of how many days he has lost. I hope Hence has a great MLB career, as a starter or closer or middle reliever. I’m just doubtful at this point that he can stay on the field in any capacity.jbrach wrote: ↑16 Jul 2025 18:24 pmactually tons of pitchers who were starters with good stuff but dont hold up physically end up dominant BP arms...BrockFloodMaris wrote: ↑15 Jul 2025 19:00 pmYes, because as we all know, being an MLB relief pitcher is such a physical walk in the park. Re: Roby and Hence Injured Again
Maybe you are correct but Tink can’t stay healthy as a starter, so why not try something else? Roby entering that territory quickly too.BrockFloodMaris wrote: ↑15 Jul 2025 19:00 pmYes, because as we all know, being an MLB relief pitcher is such a physical walk in the park. Fewer innings, yes. We need good relief pitching as well. It’s not the end of the world
Re: Roby and Hence Injured Again
The Cards should try to trade Hence this offseason. A couple years ago, he was rated top 20 in MLB prospects I think. Now he has dropped out of the top 100. He is taking up a 40 man roster spot and there is no time table for him to get to the MLs. 8 starts and 21.1 innings this year. The other stats are great. To build his innings up, he would have to pitch 80 innings next year and 120 in 2027 to possibly be ready in 2028. Given the track record, I think the chances of that happening are low. They should move on and see what they can get for him.bfib wrote: ↑16 Jul 2025 22:08 pmMaybe you are correct but Tink can’t stay healthy as a starter, so why not try something else?
