Didn't Bmore also have a catcher who put on a show, sliding on the tarp during rain delays?Hazelwood72 wrote: ↑13 Jul 2025 20:13 pmThat was Don “Full Pack” Stanhouse. Eff you Murphy you homely a-hole!
As for Helsley? He makes it interesting for sure.
Reminds me of when Earl Weaver nicknamed a reliever “full pack” because he smoked a full pack watching him pitch every night!
Much needed break

Come out strong after the break!
Stanhouse was also nicknamed “Stan the Man Unusual”. Apparently, he’d show up to batting practice early and make loud, squeaking bird screeches for the entertainment of the few early bird fans at the ballparks he played in.

Yep!12xu wrote: ↑13 Jul 2025 21:08 pmYes, and once inter-league play was started, the intrigue of seeing the stars of the other league, and the pride of proving which league was superior was diminished.MIDMOBIRDTWO wrote: ↑13 Jul 2025 20:38 pmI loved the all star game when Mays, Aaron, and Clemente would start and play the whole game, trying to win every year. When they started opting out and limiting pitchers to an inning it lost the edge I liked. It became a prom.butsir01 wrote: ↑13 Jul 2025 20:34 pmCan't blame you one bit, MidMo. I have not watched in years. It has become an anachronism with interleague play, about as interesting as the Pro Bowl, the NHL All-Offense game and the NBA Wutever game.MIDMOBIRDTWO wrote: ↑13 Jul 2025 20:31 pmThey have gotten so desperate that they put the kid from Milwaukee in and he has only pitched about 25 innings. That did if for me. Not watching a overhyped clown parade.

Cards batters finally got to Braves relievers after rain delay. Cardinals relievers hold. Salvaging the final game of the series.
I still say sell at the deadline.

Great memory, ButSir! I totally forgot about that. It was Rick Dempsey, the O’s catcher. And I seem to recall Dempsey had a couple other cohorts on the O’s that went nutzo during the rain delays. Can’t recall who. Those ‘70’s and early ‘80’s Orioles were not only talented, but they were a loose, fun bunch.butsir01 wrote: ↑13 Jul 2025 21:19 pmDidn't Bmore also have a catcher who put on a show, sliding on the tarp during rain delays?Hazelwood72 wrote: ↑13 Jul 2025 20:13 pmThat was Don “Full Pack” Stanhouse. Ah yes! The infamous White Sox “Disco Demolition Night” at Comiskey Park! Where popular Chicago radio DJ Steve Dahl blew up all the disco records in the outfield between games of a doubleheader, then it got out of hand and the Sox fans stormed the field. Harry Caray and Jimmy Piersall, the Sox broadcasters, got on the PA pleading with the fans to get off the field but it was too late as they had already torn up the field. The White Sox had to forfeit the second game!butsir01 wrote: ↑15 Jul 2025 11:53 amHazelwood72 wrote: ↑15 Jul 2025 08:54 amGreat memory, ButSir! I totally forgot about that. There were a few goofy promotions in the 1970’s. The most obvious “What Could Go Wrong Award” has to go to the Cleveland Indians “Nickel Beer Night”. Yup, the crowd got unruly and Cleveland had to forfeit that game. Like nobody expected that???? Duh!
