Pozo or Pages?

Re: Pozo or Pages?
i love Pages, but ONLY as a back up ,NOT a starter.
Re: Pozo or Pages?
My guess would be the Cards view Pages as a keeper for such a role after hopefully one of Crooks/Bernal emerge as the primary.
Doesn't mean they're right in their assessment. Are they overhyping Pages intangibles like they've possibly done with some of their past prospects?

You won't get a bag of rocks for Pages. Maybe part of a bigger deal, but c'mon, the guy can't hit and is a statue behind the plate. This stuff about "he's good with pitchers is like the other worn-out euphemism for he can't hit = "he's good in the clubhouse.",

Re: Pozo or Pages?
Pages is overrated defensively he has a problem catching the ball and blocking the ball which is kind of important for a catcher

He also hasn't been a regular in the minors most years, but more of a shared role without ABs at DH. So I'm not convinced, but it does appear he can hit a bit.
Pages is a below average talent that we need to find a replacement for sooner than later.
Pozo has a very checkered past with his off the field shenanigans while with the Rangers. My guess would also be he isn't the hardest worker based on his body. Does anyone really think he is built to be an agile, MLB-caliber catcher? Both of these could be why he hasn't wver got the run or play that his hitting ability might warrant.

Well pages is a lot slimmer and is terrible at blocking and catching the ballCardinals4Life wrote: ↑14 Jul 2025 16:52 pmCarp4Cy wrote: ↑14 Jul 2025 14:27 pm I'm a little mystified on Pozo - he's 28 years old and has hit nearly .800 OPS in the minors, so why haven't teams given him a shot before now? I was answering why I thought Pozo hasn't ever been given a real shot by other teams in the minors. Nothing to do with Pages.
Re: Pozo or Pages?
Neither Pages or Pozo are long term answers behind the plate. Pozo most likely will not be back next year. He’s not strong defensively and his success at the plate will decline if he’s more exposed. Pages is better defensively, but it’s relative. He’s the Cardinals best defensive catcher, but he’s average at best. Pages will be the starter next year, with Crooks being the backup, probably a 60/40, 55/45 split. In 27, it’s likely to be Crooks and Bernal. It’s possible that one or the other is traded, which changes the make up, of course. The Cardinals are content with Pages and Pozo this year because they are cheap and aren’t blocking anybody.

Re: Pozo or Pages?
I would like to see Pages / Pozo share more like 50/50 (or 60/40 at most).

Re: Pozo or Pages?
Why would the long term lasting/fitness of Pozo matter over Pages, if Pages may easily be replaced in the back up / split role after just one more season. Pozo only has to make it one more season in that same role instead, maybe he wont be too fat in just one more year.

Honest question......Have the Cards 100% given up on Herrera behind the plate?
Re: Pozo or Pages?
It's a fair question to wonder if Herrera can be a 40 game catcher.Cardinals4Life wrote: ↑14 Jul 2025 21:31 pm Honest question......Have the Cards 100% given up on Herrera behind the plate?
Not all teams run much and both the other 2 have
their own flaws
