You get one trade- what do you do?

Post by vegascardsfan5890 »

A: trade for a RH outfield middle of the order bat like Byron Buxton, Adolis Garcia, or Taylor Ward?

B) Trade for a SP with top of the rotation stuff like Joe Ryan, Pablo Lopez, or Sandy Alcantara?

Which would improve the team more?

Tough question. If one assumes both have equal amounts of control and contract I go with the position player. That would make a greater difference than an ace starter in the Cards chances at a title IMO. My reasons being:

Ace appears in 20% of the teams games
Injury's seem to reduce pitchers skills more than position players
Pitchers seem to get more injuries

Of course someone is going to point out Byron Buxton injury history. Well it is more of a general comment not specific players.

In the reset the plan is to get a stud position player or Ace this off season, and the other next off season. Let the kids play for two years.

You’re on track.

Trade as many as possible. There is nothing you build around on the current roster.

I’d keep Winn, Scott Donovan Herrera at DH. That leaves five spots to add power.

If those are the options, I take any of those pitchers over any of those bats any day of the week and twice on Sunday. In theory adding a RH OF MOTO bat sounds great. Coming up with a trade target is much more difficult.

Personally. Best available player / hitter in the minors AA on down for any player on this current roster not named Winn.

If JJ can legitimately play SS at a solid level then see ya Winn.

The OF is terrible. Walker, Scott, and Noot can't hit. Donny belongs on the dirt. They have no MOTO bat. The only bat in the minors with a chance to help is Baez, and he has to prove it for a longer period. Maybe moving Herrera there helps but they need to work him in the OF now (in-between games)!
The IF is passable, and they can't move NA and not likely WC, so we can live with light-hitting Winn and Donny at 2b until Westerholt comes, and they can move Donny back to super-utility. Lots of catchers.
They have to trade the FAs pitchers, or DFA them, and let some young arms get a runway this year, where finally, even the Pollyannas have figured out that this team is not going anywhere. It would be great to get a young arm, but everyone wants them.
