They'll demand the moon until they wait too long is my guess, they couldn't manage their way out of a paper bag in Vancouver these days.
This. He is a one year rental.

We need to draft Chase Reid next year instead of acquire Quinn Hughes (unlikely but put me down as an early Chase Reid touter), and yes it would be us adding to Kyrou due to Hughes' pedigree. but not a ton considering the risk he doesn't re-up

Kyrou's time in St. Louis will end awkwardly. I can't see Kyrou wanting to play for St. Louis after learning the Blues were exploring trades for him. His tenure has been turbulent to say the least. I am sure he wants out of St. Louis, and the Blues don't seem to want him.
If that were the case, his agent should have negotiated the NTC to start day one. To get pissy because a GM is listening to offers is stupid. For the record, I don't think it meant anything to him.
The idea that Kyrou is going to be disgruntled and want out because there were trade rumors is pretty silly. If that were true then about a third of the league would be demanding trades from their teams at any given time.

Re: his NTC, he got it as early as he could. Players aren’t eligible until they’ve reached what would be their first UFA year, which for Kyrou is this season. The first two years of his deal were RFA years when players can’t have NTCs.
Players want out for lots of reasons. Berube, Armstrong and our current coach are all close friends. I’m sure they try and keep it professional, but I’m sure there’s not tons of love either.
I’m not saying there couldn’t be other reasons. But him hearing his name come up in trade rumors as he’s approaching the start of his NTC should not be even remotely surprising, nor should it be upsetting to him. It’s just a fact of life for a professional athlete. All the rumors mean are that other teams wanted him and the Blues talked to them. At the end of the day… they didn’t move him. If they were really set on getting rid of him, it would have happened. It didn’t.

That’s true, but if you feel your bosses don’t respect you it can be tough…unless you absolutely love your current situation

You get Hughes for two years, his contract runs through the end of the '26-'27 season.

But I agree with your point, he's an all-in move and Army already said he's not looking to push a bunch of chips into the middle of the table at this time. Plus you'd have to make a corresponding move with Fowler or Broberg to fit Hughes into the top 4. I guess you could move one of them to backfill some winger depth. A move like this, or Byram, only makes sense if you can sign the player long term (and with Hughes that conversation has to wait a year, though you could flip him at that time if it doesn't go well) and the main reason this is a rumor is because of Hughes potentially signing in New Jersey to play with his brothers in two years.
