Having said that they are going to need to acquire a starting pitcher sometime prior to 2026. The fact that Mikolas and Fedde remain in the rotation indicates we don't have enough in the minors to fill those spots.

That's partly true. We don't have enough to fill both spots. But why don't they fill one of them with McGreevy? The Cardinals don't eat contracts and they seem to think one or both of those guys could have enough value to be traded at the deadline. MM has a ntc. So maybe Fedde gets traded? Doubtful on both.

I don't pay close attention to milb but a quick look at the stats indicates unless a good starting pitcher is injured McGreevy is the only one who might be able to stick in MLB. Looking at his stats he has had more hits than innings pitched at every level of milb. Walks/9 are good. K/9 okay. At 25 years old he isn't young for the level.

Certainly not the dominant numbers that would indicate top of the rotation in MLB but when he gets called up I'll pull for him to succeed. He will probably get the call soon. If not this season I would expect him to be in the rotation in April 2026.

Regarding Mikolas this is his final season and who would want either him or Fedde at this point? Roby's numbers look to me like he has a chance to be good. Not sure what the plans are for him. Hence looks like a late inning reliever. Just looking at numbers in AA and AAA I'd say Roby is the one with the best chance to succeed in MLB. Didn't look at low minors.

The #5 pick is exciting to have but honestly what they do in the later rounds will be far more important.

The Cards don’t dabble here much but the free agent method must be part of the plan:
Free agents, including international FAs of past six WS winners.

Dodgers - 9 in ‘24
Rangers - 11 in ‘23
Astros - 9 in ‘22;
Braves - 9 in ‘21;
LA - 11 in ‘20;
Nats - 12 in ‘19

Then there’s the Cardinals … with 3. Only one good one - Sonny.

Draft we have the #5 pick
Can't mess that up.
However, trade deadline is huge.
What gets traded and what we get in return.
I'd say the trade deadline is most important.
Gotta get something for Helsley and unload Arenado.
Ideally Fedde too.
Absolutely the draft is more important.

Saggese is the type of return we will get at the trade deadline (just more JAGs) unless we trade controllable talent like Gorman and Walker, or Noot or Burly or Donny - but that isn't on a deadline - they could be dealt during the offseason which is much more likely.
