Yep. Won the Texas League Batting Title. Dude can hit. Can play 2B and OF. I think he has to be looked at by the organization as a potential player and be given a legitimate chance.

Unfortunately he doesn't come with the prospect pedigree so it seems he has an uphill climb. That's a shame.
He is small and weak.

He could probably play 2B and get on base for a non-contender for a few years.
I don't care what size he is, the guy can hit. He is a career. 300+ hitter in the minors leagues in over 1400 PA. He just won a AA batting title and plays the game the right way - hard nosed.

We need MORE guys like this, not less!

Give me 9 guys with his hit tool and I'll show you a winning club!
So why do you think he was playing in independent leagues the last few years?
Who cares?!?!? That's the problem.
Just because he wasn't a blue chip 1st rounder, he isn't given the same shot and isn't looked upon as anybody.

Imagine if Jose Altuve would've just gone home when told to at a tryout camp in Venezuela? Sometimes guys can play.
Love the comp

They are not alike.
Let’s get serious and call him the next Biggio

Altuve? 8O

That guy has power, and the Cardinals need power in the OF, not a slap hitter. And second base is crowded with Donovan, Gorman and next year JJ. They don't need a second baseman.
Missing my point.....My question is why do so many guys who actually perform quite well (and even standout) in the minors get passed over for guys who really aren't producing just because they were high draft choices?

I think I know the answer.....Partly because of the $$$ already spent on these guys and partly because the guys who drafted them want to be "right" in their selections.

I'm not saying Torres is Altuve, but I am saying is we have a guy who has won a AA batting title and is hitting quite well in AAA again this year and not a word about him. I don't care what his age is, if he can hit that should be a positive.

He’s weak.

That’s the why. It has nothing to do with all that other stuff.

Dude.

He doesn’t impact the ball. He’d do no damage in the bigs. He’d be slappy singles hitter with a decent on base percentage.

There are only a couple of guys in the majors with a profile like that but they have elite bat control, and Torres does not.

Ok. Thanks.
So you're saying because he only HITS singles and gets on base that there is no place for a guy like that?

I think that has become one of the many problems with today's game.
