Ken Wilson was always the best for the Blues imo (I'm in my 40's) but JK really grew on me over the years.
Obviously, you never heard JK's father broadcast a hockey game.
Did you miss the part when I mentioned my age?
Nope, read your age. Doesn’t matter how old you are. I never heard Foster Hewitt, but I know he’s considered the best. He even has a NHL award named in his honor. You know, the one Hall of Fsme announcer, Dan Kelly, won before his death.
I’m 71. I heard Dan Kelly for many years. I’ve played YouTube videos of old games with Foster Hewitt on Hockey Night in Canada. Hewitt may have been the pioneer of hockey broadcasts and is rightly honored, but Dan Kelly was THE best ever. Better than Gary Thorne of ESPN. Better than Doc Emrick of NBC. Better than Danny Gallivan of CBC Canada.

Dan Kelly was the GOAT.

I don't want to speak for Balotelli, but, who gives a [shirt]? Dan Kelly was dead and gone before I became a fan. His voice carries no memories, or emotions for me. I hate it when old guys get so nostalgic for [shirt], that they think younger generations life experiences are minimized because they didn't have the same experience. I got to hear Ken Wilson on KMOX describing the atmosphere at the Arena during the 1993 playoffs when the Blues were on their way to sweeping the Blackhawks. Could barely hear the words over the crowd singing "Hey, Hey, Kiss Him Goodbye". At that moment, with 2:00 left, me and my girlfriend arrived at the restaurant I took her to that night. I went to shut off the car, and she said "You don't have to, we can sit and hear the end of it". I thought "(drat), that's a keeper". That high school girl in 1993 listening to Ken Wilson with me, is my wife now of almost 30 years. She's the one who held my hand, when I had tears streaming down my drunk face, watching the TV with my phone up to my ear listening to Chris Kerber call the end of the 2019 Stanley Cup Finals. So sorry, not sorry, that I don't get misty eyed over a guy who's voice I only know from highlights.
Cool story, bro. Thanks for the walk down memory lane. Congrats to you and your wife on 30 years of marriage. I'm not minimizing anything for the younger generations, I can understand your attachment to Wilson. My only point is simply your attachment doesn't make him the best Blues announcer. Sorry, Dan Kelly, even though "his voice carries no memories or emotions for" you is, and will always be, the best play by play announcer in Blues history. If and when another Blues announcer gets his/her name on a banner in the rafters and elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame, you let me know and I will be happy to open the discussion once again. Until then, Dan Kelly is in a league of his own.
So what makes Dan Kelly so Godlike? I don't care about the Hall of Fame, and I don't care about his flag in the rafters (It's there because he died tragically way too young, like Gassoff and Wick). A sports announcer IS emotion, it IS attachment. That's why guys who discovered the Blues through his voice will absolutely smack the [shirt] out anyone that dares disrespect him. I get it. Your portal to something that means everything got closed because of [fork]ing Cancer. That sucks so hard. DK was everything to Blues fans and he should have been around long enough for me to have the experience of his voice calling Brett Hull's 86 goals, but he wasn't. I think Bobby Plager was the greatest Blue in history. I never saw him play, but I got to sit next to him in the Alumni Box for 2 periods and had him telling me all the stories. He signed my ticket stub that night. I got to have The Bobby Plager Experience and see why he was so loved by players and fans. To me sports is all emotion, the highs, the lows, the joy the pain. The people whose voices bring that to you, is part of the whole deal. To us younger guys, the portal was opened at a different time, by a different voice. that's all.

Met Bob Miller, the longtime excellent announcer for the Kings. Told him how lucky I was to listen to Dan Kelly as a kid and then Bob Miller when I lived in LA. Bob immediately called Kelly the gold standard.

The epitome of the definition of "first class".

This franchise messed this up big time.
Totally agree.
Totally agree, I was fortunate to be taught the game of hockey by the GOAT Dan Kelly. John is pretty darn good also. This is a mistake!!

Now the only boob we'll get to see is Bernie....the nipple on that one is wonky!

This next seasons gonna suck!
HOF Bernie is a "boob?" Look in the mirror.

I like Bernie but he can't carry the load.
He's not that great at talking.
The games will be brutal to listen to next season. You'll see.

It’s hilarious all the threads started the last few years complaining about Pang, Rivers or even Kelly’s little sayings, whether it was the thank you thank you thank you or un-bee-lievable but now that they’re all gone it’s the end of days!

Just relax and watch the game.

Yep. There would be multiple every single year complaining about how they were homers and their excitement was fake etc etc.

I get it though everyone wants change until change happens.

What I found funny is people are bringing up (on X) how awful it was to let Ken Wilson go and I'm going, Ummmmm do you know why he was fired and who replaced him?

They do not.

Not to digress too much, but while Wilson was indeed pretty good in the beginning, by the end he was a parody of himself and all the oh baby’s felt forced like he had a quota he had to hit

Never felt that. If I remember right, he did not just use it for goals only and so I think maybe folks thought it was used too often. But I liked it and I thought it was a very good trademark call for him unlike so many other broadcaster duds out there.

I mean to this day 60 years later I can hear Harry now...." There's a drive......waaaaaay back......it might be outta here....it could be.......it is!! .... a home run!

Some of it is generational. If you learned hockey from Dan Kelly, Wilson was a clown. If you learned hockey from Ken Wilson, Wilson is the OG. I mean, I wasn't even a fan then, but to me the Monday Night Miracle is Ken Wilsons call. Wickenheiser SCORES!!!! DOUG WICKENHEISER!!!! I loved it when they brought out the 90's throwback jersey's they got him to do the commercial for them. I wish I could find it on YouTube, it felt like an old KPLR broadcast.

That was actually an ESPN broadcast, he was doing the game for them.
