Cubs announcer Jim Deshaies on ESPN
Just said the Cubs are in on adding 1-2 SP and are willing to overpay in prospects. Targeting Cabrerra and Alcantra from Miami, Keller from Pittsburgh, Perez from Tampa Bay. Problem they are having is the are currently very few sellers and all the big market teams also want to add SP. he believes it’s a sellers market and any SP will require a 2-1 return. So if the Cardinals want to add they will have to be willing to give a ton

Yep! Just what Mo wanted to hear....
Re: Cubs announcer Jim Deshaies on ESPN
It's clearly a seller's market. Helsley, Maton and even Matz have inflated values because of it. We now know Fedde and Miko are worthless.Youboughtit wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 11:48 am Just said the Cubs are in on adding 1-2 SP and are willing to overpay in prospects. If Mo doesn't get something of decent value back, it's a sin. These FAs aren't coming back, and the team isn't going to the playoffs (and would be 1-10 if they get lucky and do).
If someone makes an offer for Burly, Donny, or even Gorman (unlikely) - and a catcher not named Bernal, they have to listen.
I think Miami is the place to look for trades, as they manufacture pitching (3 of their top 5 prospects are good pitchers).

Also said they are not looking at rentals like Gallen at this point. Feels their window is just opening and need young cost controlled power arms to go with all their young position players.

that is, if any team WOULD EVEN WANT any of the Card starters.
relievers yes, starters probably not.

I keep saying the Cardinals should sell early before there are other sellers to compete with and before teams begin to satisfy their demands.82birds wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 12:05 pmthe corollary is what MO should be thinking aboutYouboughtit wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 11:48 am Just said the Cubs are in on adding 1-2 SP and are willing to overpay in prospects. Teams looking to add don’t want pitch to contact #4-5 innings eaters. They are looking to add difference makersTalkin' Baseball wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 12:21 pmI keep saying the Cardinals should sell early before there are other sellers to compete with and before teams begin to satisfy their demands.82birds wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 12:05 pmthe corollary is what MO should be thinking aboutYouboughtit wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 11:48 am Just said the Cubs are in on adding 1-2 SP and are willing to overpay in prospects. Cool. Sounds like they will be calling about Fedde and Mikolas.Youboughtit wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 12:04 pm Also said they are not looking at rentals like Gallen at this point. Feels their window is just opening and need young cost controlled power arms to go with all their young position players.
Re: Cubs announcer Jim Deshaies on ESPN
A convenient 'out' for Mo is one he has used in the past . He could say 'we were open to listen to offers. A couple clubs contacted us but nobody was offering anything close to market value . We were not just going to give our guys away . '

Please let Bloom have a say in the deadline deals! I just don’t trust Mo to do the right thing.

Ok so if as I suspect there is no market for anyone on this roster except Helsley Gray Hererra Winn Donovan and maybe a couple others and they have a logjam coming at 2B and DH when Wetherholt arrives what’s the plan? Wait until offseason and do nothing? Eventually they have to address the holes at RH OF and a Young SP with strikeout stuff. They do not and have not developed any recently. How does that draw fans to the stadium?82birds wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 13:48 pmagree 200%BrockFloodMaris wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 13:47 pmPlease let Bloom have a say in the deadline deals! Sell who? Players a team would buy are Gray Helsley Donovan Winn Hererra Wetherholt and maybe for Pennie’s on the dollar Gorman or Walker.45s wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 14:27 pmI think that’s a very good call….Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 12:21 pmI keep saying the Cardinals should sell early before there are other sellers to compete with and before teams begin to satisfy their demands.82birds wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 12:05 pmthe corollary is what MO should be thinking aboutYouboughtit wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 11:48 am Just said the Cubs are in on adding 1-2 SP and are willing to overpay in prospects.
