The end of an era.
Hate it.
Re: John Kelly out
If they are down to cutting a couple of salaries the finances must be pretty bleak- or they are just greedy.
Seems like it could have been handled better. Wonder if they will honor John during the season? Wonder if he would come?

I don't want to speak for Balotelli, but, who gives a [shirt]? Dan Kelly was dead and gone before I became a fan. His voice carries no memories, or emotions for me. I hate it when old guys get so nostalgic for [shirt], that they think younger generations life experiences are minimized because they didn't have the same experience. I got to hear Ken Wilson on KMOX describing the atmosphere at the Arena during the 1993 playoffs when the Blues were on their way to sweeping the Blackhawks. Could barely hear the words over the crowd singing "Hey, Hey, Kiss Him Goodbye". At that moment, with 2:00 left, me and my girlfriend arrived at the restaurant I took her to that night. I went to shut off the car, and she said "You don't have to, we can sit and hear the end of it". I thought "(bleep), that's a keeper". That high school girl in 1993 listening to Ken Wilson with me, is my wife now of almost 30 years. She's the one who held my hand, when I had tears streaming down my drunk face, watching the TV with my phone up to my ear listening to Chris Kerber call the end of the 2019 Stanley Cup Finals. So sorry, not sorry, that I don't get misty eyed over a guy who's voice I only know from highlights.Big_G wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 12:05 pmNope, read your age. Doesn’t matter how old you are. Ken Wilson was always the best for the Blues imo (I'm in my 40's) but JK really grew on me over the years.

Hey moron, the Blues have 100% say on who announces for them. And Ken Wilson learned that, when Fox Sports gave him another contract, and Blues blocked it. Stillman is not a rich guy. He has rich friends, but they dont pay the bills, he does. Gotta get STLFCCity Owner more involved in the money front. She has billions with a B, not tens of Millions like Tom
Cardinals also blocked a move by Fanduel in the past(ballys then), and fanduel went another direction the Cardinals approved of .
Teams have 100% say on the broadcasting people.

Owned by a Millionaire, not a Billionaire.
Stillman pays the bills, and he even stated they needed the playoff money, badly. Several Billionaires who backed his bid, and got a little piece of the club, so he could get the loan, they do not pay the Blues bills, that's on Tom. Facts are, he's a 10's of Millionaire in a Billionaire sport/s industry.

Re: John Kelly out
Cool story, bro. Thanks for the walk down memory lane. Congrats to you and your wife on 30 years of marriage. I'm not minimizing anything for the younger generations, I can understand your attachment to Wilson. My only point is simply your attachment doesn't make him the best Blues announcer. Sorry, Dan Kelly, even though "his voice carries no memories or emotions for" you is, and will always be, the best play by play announcer in Blues history. If and when another Blues announcer gets his/her name on a banner in the rafters and elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame, you let me know and I will be happy to open the discussion once again. Until then, Dan Kelly is in a league of his own.TAFKAP wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 15:45 pmI don't want to speak for Balotelli, but, who gives a [shirt]? Dan Kelly was dead and gone before I became a fan. THIS.Chris2fer wrote: ↑10 Jul 2025 21:57 pm Our nostalgia has caused us to look past the quality in the booth.
Kerber is easily the better announcer and play by play, I just hope his work translates to tv smoothly.
For years I kept the tv volume on mute with the radio calls up.
Kelly is easily the last person in the building to know what's going on and when he's paid to share that with others, it's a bad recipe only saved by that he's a nice guy and has a name that opens doors.

You also have to remember, the landscape of regional TV deals is changing. Cord cutting is putting the hurt on the RSNs. The bankruptcy of Diamond/Ballys/FanDuel probably didn't help either.AtillaTheBlue1 wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 16:13 pmOwned by a Millionaire, not a Billionaire.

The Blues are a mid-market team at a time when the cap is rising. Stillman said it in a podcast recently. The Blues will have to be creative in order to keep spending to the cap in the future.
It's the hard reality that many teams are soon to realize. The Blues are getting in front of it.

Re: John Kelly out
I’m 71. I heard Dan Kelly for many years. I’ve played YouTube videos of old games with Foster Hewitt on Hockey Night in Canada. Hewitt may have been the pioneer of hockey broadcasts and is rightly honored, but Dan Kelly was THE best ever. Better than Gary Thorne of ESPN. Better than Doc Emrick of NBC. Better than Danny Gallivan of CBC Canada.Big_G wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 12:05 pmNope, read your age. Doesn’t matter how old you are. I never heard Foster Hewitt, but I know he’s considered the best.
