I wouldn't say he SHOULD be traded, but I'm definitely not against trading him in the right deal. I think his offense took a big step back this year, so I'm less confident in what his offense looks like at the MLB level. But I'm also not just trading him to trade him because I'm not ready to say that his stats in AAA this year are exactly what he is.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 10:57 amI am one of those people. Crooks is on my short list to be traded. If he has a .756 OPS at Memphis that probably translates to a sub .700 OPS in the majors. He's another lefty bat on a lefty heavy team. If he was all we had, I'd be glad to have him. He is not. Bernal is your guy. Crooks has value- trade him. Call me what you will.

Personally, I do not believe the Cardinals make any head turning deals at the deadline. I do not believe you will see any name of notice moved until the off season. That is when the team is going to start working the phones to move guys out of the organization. I see this for some individuals for 2026.
Nootbar - Traded
Contreras - Traded (He will waive NTC)
Gorman - Traded or AAA
Walker - Traded or AAA
Pozo - Encouraged to learn what a treadmill is.
Crooks - Gets his turn to show.

I think he's one of C. Bloom's trade chips too
I'm not an MLB draft guru, any college (I don't want to wait four years for a HS kid) right handed power hitters we might land at #5?
Re: Jimmy Crooks
Simple solution. Trade Pages this month.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 10:30 am+1 if you trade crooks and Bernal doesn’t work out then you are screwed with pages for several more years. No way should they go into next season with pages catching.Wattage wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 10:22 amIf herrera cant catch, i dont know how you could consider trading him. Pages isnt a long term answer. Maybe if bernall appears to be the guy instead but right now we need a better catcher than pagesFuturegm2 wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 09:46 am Currently on a 12 game hitting streak, he’s been for the most part consistent in Memphis this season offensively.
He hasn’t had an OPS lower than .707 for a month this season and this so far is his first month with an OPS above .800, as he is currently at .919 through 7 games in July.
67 G
294 PA

.257 avg
.320 OBP
.437 SLG
.756 OPS
Statcast from fangraphs
90.1 mph average EV
45% hard hit%
That compares to JT Realmuto who is at 90.5 mph this year and 45.5% hard hit%, which are both above average numbers for JT in his career.
He has 124 RBI in 665 PA the last 2 years between AA and AAA.
Defensively he has a .992 fielding% 7 double plays, 8 passed balls (had 7 last year), and has thrown out 28% (21 of 74) of would be base stealers which is a good amount above the league average of 22%.
Logically he’s one of our better trade chips. But I also wouldn’t mind seeing him get a callup soon.
Re: Jimmy Crooks
These proposals make no sense unless you are suggesting we get better players in return. Who and where?StlMike1969 wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 12:27 pm Personally, I do not believe the Cardinals make any head turning deals at the deadline. I do notice that the league seems over burdened with power hitting lefties
How the [fork] did that happen?

I still pursue Colby Thomas from the A's...and/or Buxton. I'm trading catchers, utility LH hitting infielders or an OFer, or a Catcher

Excited about Wetherholt along with Crooks/Bernal along with a few pitchers for 2026.
Generally I am hesitant to trade top prospects before they get a look in the majors,
It usually means selling low.

Re: Jimmy Crooks
A) It’s not really “so many” lefties. If the team is healthy 2 of our 3 middle of the order hitters are RH bats. We really don’t have a LH bat to put in the other middle of the order spot. Burleson should bat 6th behind Contreras in a competitive lineup. Lineup is actually pretty balanced if healthy. Right now we aren’t healthy, we’ve been missing one of our big RH bats.
B) It should be a good thing since 75% of the pitchers out there are RHs.
Re: Jimmy Crooks
I’m so over pages. So over him. Gimme the thief.
Re: Jimmy Crooks
They do have depth in LH bats so it makes sense to deal from that strength.
I’m for dealing anyone as long as the return is strong and fills a need.
Re: Jimmy Crooks
True, but a LH/RH tandem at catcher is a significant strategic advantage for a competent manager - and hopefully STL will have one next year.
It would be a criminal offense to let Crooks escape right now.

Depth throughout the majors and minors is basically LHFuturegm2 wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 13:39 pmA) It’s not really “so many” lefties.
