Walker removed from game….!!!!????
In Springfield in the 5th inning after hitting a HR in his previous at bat. Could this mean he’s headed to St Louis???
Otherwise, hope he’s not injured??!!

Re: Walker removed from game….!!!!????
no
3 PA's, typical removal when on Rehab. Ivan Herrera was PH'd for in Memphis game after his 3rd PA.
Walker played in game 1 also.
I guess he could be on his way to St. Louis...but the removal doesn't suggest that. We'll see.

It could mean he made a diving catch shortly after having a pendicitis.

He’s been traded for Skubal
Re: Walker removed from game….!!!!????
I agree with making him prove it, however, that ship may have passed. They didn’t do it his rookie year. They didn’t do it last year, either. Walker, IF he is what they hope, should at some point just crushed AAA for an extended period. He has not to this point. Right now, he is on a rehab assignment, the maximum of which is 20 days. If they want to keep him there beyond that, they’d have to option him. I believe that would be his final option and I don’t think they want to do that at this point.scoutyjones2 wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 07:53 am They will make him prove he deserves to be called up

A guy that I think can help him, but I doubt the Cardinals would reach out to him because he’s probably not analytics based, is George Hendrick. Hendrick was built similarly to Walker and had that straight up and down closed stance. I think he could relate to Walker, if Walker will listen.

I have no idea why you think Hendricks can help him. Absolutely no basis for thinking that...Red7 wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 09:30 amI agree with making him prove it, however, that ship may have passed. The kid was a big fish, literally, in high school, and now has to work very hard to even be average in MLB and I don't think he has the skills, or the mental capacity to do it.
Burn his last option. Who cares. He has proven he gets worse at MLB, which isn't an instructional league.
Trade him in the off-season and wish him well
Re: Walker removed from game….!!!!????
1. If you are scared of burning his option year cuz you are scared you may need it again next year- that isnt exactly good for his prospects of making it in mlb.Red7 wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 09:30 amI agree with making him prove it, however, that ship may have passed. 2. He can actually be optioned but wont burn the option year if they recall him within 20 days. A player has to be sent down for 20 days in order to burn an option year.

There's more there than you give credit for. What am I missing? His continuous hitting getting worse year over year? His meh defense that everyone wet themselves over this year, that has now regressed. His continuous negative WAR?Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 11:01 amThere's more there than you give credit for. If he has one option left, and continues with a 59 OPS+...you gotta keep him in the minors and then cut bait, as he is [defecating] the bed in the minors too.

You're not wrong in saying he has been bad- he has been bad. Here is what I would like to see happen. I would like to see him back on the 26 man roster when his rehab assignment is complete, and have his option remaining. I would like to see him finish the season in St Louis and I don't care what his role is. In the spring he has to without a doubt MAKE the team. If he doesn't, use his option and send him to Memphis even if he has to spend the whole season there. There are better development people in house now who will be gaining in voice. See if they can use the year to help him. If they can't- then cut bait.scoutyjones2 wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 11:15 amWhat am I missing? His continuous hitting getting worse year over year? His role would/should be sitting on the bench if he's on the Cards. That does nothing for him or the Cards.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 11:21 amYou're not wrong in saying he has been bad- he has been bad. Here is what I would like to see happen. Keto him down. If he continues to suck, time to trade em and never look back.
He's worse than Boots!

Re: Walker removed from game….!!!!????
What's rather unfortunate is for the first time since his rookie year, he looked good for a 20-game stretch right before his wrist injury. Was hitting over .300 with an OPS north of .800 and drove in more runs than any other Cardinal during that time. I hoped he was about to break out. Feel bad for the kid because he was rushed to MLB to cover Mo's mistakes.
And then one month in after tying the rookie record for hit streak to start a career (or something like that) the Cardinals publicly release his swing is no good. The whole thing has been a debacle from the start. Should have been left at AAA until he dominated last season and if he didn't, should have been left there.
Such a nice, well-spoken, humble kid in his interviews as well. But I think getting away from the Cardinals would be a godsend for him. Problem is his trade value is likely very little atm.
