Absolutely see how Herrera does as an OF'er, that's been a no brainer idea from early on.
As long as Contreras is here, Burly's best fit is as the DH.
Just b/c Herrera has had a couple injuries this year doesn't mean much. We don't know yet how he will hold up as a position starter anywhere.
As a former catcher I’d think he at least has the arm for left.
lol his arm is too weak for catcher that’s why they are moving him
That is but one of several reasons they are moving him.
Which should have happened long ago.
His arm should be fine for LF.
He will have more time to set-up, more time to wind & throw, and will not need to deliver a ball 12-30 inches above the 2nd base bag 100 times a year.

In practice from Willy M.
Do you think maybe try him in LF ?
Replace Noot thus keeping DH spot open for Gorman
And possible Pozo/Pages combo C/DH sometimes too.
Let's slow the roll and see if he can do it. Kid gets hurt running bases and has never played the OF.
Ye I would be surprised and disappointed if they throw him in OF this year. But I do hope he can learn the position.
It will be a process.
As LaRussa once observed, any infielder can learn to play the outfield.
As long as the legs work.
The bar to be a LF is quite low.
Herrera should pick it up fairly well over time.

I agree, Scouty. Leave him at DH. His legs seem to be an issue this year.
Playing a few games in the outfield is way easier on his legs than playing a few games at catcher. Lets not get overdramatic. And he probably still will dh a lot. Just occasionally work in outfield work. Increase cardinals flexibility. And giving saggese and herrera outfield reps is signaling that walker and noot actually need to do something or we will try other options.(although saggese has lost steam at the moment)
Im not being overly dramatic. The guy has a hamstring issue. So lets have him run around the outfield! Plus it creates another outfield option for Mo and Lil oli to screw up the lineup even more. This only works if those dumb[ash] trade one or more of the already underperforming outfielders they already have. Otherwise, Mo and Marmol will cock it all up even more.
Wetherholt was out twice with a hammy in college - which hurt his draft rating but helped the Cards get him -- and he's playing SS. Should they make him a DH?

Good to see the Cardinals doing that which I was first and best to understand, 3 years ago when I correctly advised precisely this move.
My perfect branding of Super Slo Mo confirmed yet again.
Best of luck to Herrera - this will unquestionably enhance his career
Agreed, if he can DH and just play LF sometimes, that'd be a pretty great outcome. His bat looks very legit.

I am far more persuaded of his BA/OBP skill than his power.
But, maybe the power surprises.
Either way, he will now finally have a true opportunity to develop - and I agree with you that this is a good thing.

Worth remembering all players shag outfield balls throughout their careers.
Herrera has been out there before.
Yes, it will take time.
But he is not starting from zero.

Arm wont be the problem, its about tracking fly balls. Jordan walker was fast but was still bad defensively cuz he couldnt track a fly ball to save his life or get a good jump. Herrera has no experience at all in the outfield- except for maybe when he was in highschool or earlier, and he doesnt have walkers speed to help make up for mistakes. Some learn better than others but it will be a process for herrera to learn to track flyballs.

My point was about a guy with CURRENT problems with a hamstring (and knee), being put in a new position that requires longer routes. Herrera has been their most dangerous hitter but has missed over half their games with leg injuries.

Fair enough, but one was a bone bruise and he's recovered pretty quickly from a hamstring and that's an indication that it's not a bad one. I agree that they need to ensure that he's healthy, but I don't think that stops them from trying him out before next year and avoid another Jordan Walker situation.

Better to run in outfield than squat as catcher.
To me, the fact that herrera and and saggese recently took outfield balls means that the org doesnt want to be 100% committed to walker and maybe nootbaar in outfield and wants other options if they decide to move on.
I hope they are listening to offers on both. Nootbaar is probably their most realistic trade bait. Walker would be trading at low value unless a team is certain they can fix his offense.

Good point. Hopefully he can learn the position and be competent.

“Which I was first and best to understand”
And
“My perfect branding”
But
“Never about me always about the game”!
ME-ville at his best never fails to get a laugh!
Easy
Obvious
Correct
I appreciate your acknowledgement that I have been proven correct in my analysis yet again.
I have been saying since the 2023 season (yes - this is now the third year) that Herrera could never be an adequate MLB catcher - there were simply too many things to correct.
And you are correct about something as well - I am, in fact, only and always about the game.
The game made it obvious The Matador (I wish I could remember who came up with that so that I could give due credit) was never going to stick at that position.
The game made it obvious it was imperative to find another spot for him.
The game made it clear that pitchers, quite correctly, were never going to have confidence in him.
This was all painfully obvious.
It is simply amazing that Super Slo Mo and his staff of sycophants required 3 seasons to finally see that which I understood perfectly in a matter of weeks.
This is great news for Herrera.
AS I said, this will unquestionably enhance his career.
My advice to you - and to the Cardinals?
Keep learning.
The only thing I am “acknowledging” is that you are a pompous, hypocritical clown.
Thus you are ME-ville the Sideshow Clown!
And BTW...your diatribe about being a highly qualified educator and trainer is all (bleep) and everyone knows it! LOL
