The most unbreakable BB records--How about 138 Stolen Bases--Hello Victor Scott !!
I'm a bit disappointed in VS II
He only has 23 stolen bases.
The record is an amazing 138 in 1887 by Hugh Nicol.
Not even the late great Rickey Henderson could touch that.
Appears to be an untouchable record.
More so than the single season HR record which was
broken multiple times.
This is a record that steroid users won't even touch.
Take as many steroids as you like, never gonna get 138.
Makes me appreciate Vincent Coleman even more.
Wow, I thought Scott would be better.

Never looked at single season HR record as one of the unbreakable records.
One of the records that has stood since 1941 though is Joe Dimaggio's 56 game hitting streak . Pete Rose came the closest at 44 .. while tremendous what Pete did that was still 12 games shy .

It's not a record though, it's a streak.
Anyway, it is very impressive.
May not be duplicated ever.
Although, I think this record may never as well.
Who is going to steal 138?
(bleep) near impossible.

Tony Cloniger, pitcher , hit 2 grand slams in same game. Given the stars align, Ohtani could match that feat. Still, wouldn't quite be the same because Cloniger was a normal pitcher.

As far as 138 SB's in 1887, yeah, that's not comparing apples to apples. The quality/style of play in 1887 comped to now, really?

Also, you're okay with 1941 streak,
but not 1887?
1941 is almost 84 years ago.
You're okay with that one,
but not the other?

Re: The most unbreakable BB records--How about 138 Stolen Bases--Hello Victor Scott !!
Most unbreakable is Connie Mack - real name Cornelius Mcgillicuddy - 3,731 wins. LaRussa is 847 wins behind Mack. With LaRussa's career .536 winning percentage he would have to manage another 1,580 games to tie Mack.
Re: The most unbreakable BB records--How about 138 Stolen Bases--Hello Victor Scott !!
With the way pitchers are used now take your pick of records held by Cy Young that nobody will get close to (starting now nobody will likely get even to 50% of these marks) . . .
Wins - 511
Losses - 316
Starts - 815
IP - 7354.2
CG - 749
Walter Johnson has 110 shut outs, Bob Gibson had half that many (56).
I'll take the odds of somebody getting 100+ steals again easily compared to any pitcher coming close to any of those numbers.

Lol, look, if you want to separate records into different eras, fine, and I'd agree.Bully4you wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 08:12 amYou're right.JDW wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 08:09 amIt's the record hit streak, duh.Bully4you wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 08:01 amIt's a hit streak.JDW wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 07:56 amUmmm, yeah, it's a record, a record hit streak, but it's still a record.Bully4you wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 04:40 amI'm well aware of that streak.ramfandan wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 03:32 am Never looked at single season HR record as one of the unbreakable records.

I often watch old clips of MLB on youtube. The quality of play is different for sure, no fault of the players back then, as they didn't have all the advantages of today.
But to go back to 1887 is beyond ridiculous except as a fun exercise I guess. No video, teams probably had the same pitcher for almost every game as far as I know or care.
As far as VS2, imo he's doing fine in his rookie year with the hope he keeps trending better.
Re: The most unbreakable BB records--How about 138 Stolen Bases--Hello Victor Scott !!
In 1982 Rickey stole 130 bases, despite only playing in 149 games and having 656 PAs. Two years prior he stole 100 bases in 158 games, and 722 PAs. I think with 10-13 more games Rickey probably gets 8-10 more SBs in 1982. Granted he's the best base runner in history and he would have needed everything to go just right for him to do it, but it shows that 95 years later a player came very close to that record.Bully4you wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 03:14 am The record is an amazing 138 in 1887 by Hugh Nicol.

100+ years later we're getting farther and farther from Cy Young and Walter Johnson's pitching records.
Edit: The remarkable thing (well maybe not that remarkable considering the era, but crazy looking at it through the lens of modern baseball), Nicol stole 138 bases in 125 games, and further more he had 99 hits that weren't a HR or triple, but had a remarkable 86 walks. He hit .215 but got on base at a .341 clip to steal 138 bases in 185 opportunities!
That same year, 1887, Arlie Latham stole 129 bases, in 677 PAs over 100 more than Nicol (his 627 ABs dwarfed Nicol's 475). Charlie Comiskey stole 117 and Pete Browning stole 103.

If one uses voice search ,
It states
The record for most consecutive games with a hit is 56 by Joe Dimaggio . The hitting streak was in 1941.
So yes it is a record.. a record for most consecutive games with a hit.
