Who is the next Cam Fowler?

Post by a smell of green grass »

Given Cam Fowler's impact on the Blues, and his age, I have been trying to figure out who will replace him someday.

I'm very happy with the Carbonneau pick, but my initial wish was for Cameron Reid. I really wanted a young Cam Fowler. :)

I think that the Blues are angling for this as well with their Byram interest.

What are your thoughts about who the next Cam Fowler could be? How do we keep the Cam Fowler effect going?

Lindstein?
Broberg?

I hope that someone sees a path forward on this one. For sure, I think that the Blues should keep him as long as possible.

I can see Broberg, and pretty easily.
He was 23 last year and had "nagging injuries".
In a short time, he will be as good as Fowler in his prime, imo.

If Reid was viewed as the next Cam Fowler he would’ve been drafted much higher.

Maybe Broberg? He doesn’t have quite the same offe dice ability as Fowler. But that’s the thing. You don’t need exact clones of previous players to have a winning team.

We don't need a next Cam Fowler yet. We have this Cam Fowler. When that time eventually comes, these things have a way of working themselves out.

Hard to predict when we have no idea who will be on the roster when we get to that point.

Good to hear it. Hopefully it will help Broberg (or whoever) to eyeball Fowler for a couple years.

Broberg is a stud dman hes going to be dominant this year. Last year was a taste, he started off on fire 12pts in his first 15 GP, attacking the net routinely banking over 21 min a game. After the injury he seemed tentative may have still been sore or nursing it a bit. If fully healthy he will have a career year even with out PP time

I agree that there is no need to copy Clark Kent. However, I stand firm that copying Superman is essential. :)

Lotta Broberg love here. That's great.

Question: Is Cam Fowler the Blues' #1D?

I say yes, and that he is a quality NHL #1D (or was for us last season).

Just curious. No votes for Lindstein? Is that because you haven't seen enough of him, or does he lack some playing characteristic?

At this point the only way Id acquire Bo Bryam is if the contract price and asset price wasnt to high. He does play some RD so I go

Broberg/ CP55
Cam/ Byram
Tucker/ Mailloux

Then next year NOT resign CAM

Broberg/ CP55
Byram/ Mailloux (if he progesses nicely this season)
Tucker / Adam Jirichek

Colton Parayko by every measure is an NHL #1 dman, Fowler is a top pairing LHD. Broberg is in waiting, simmering while Fowler is here who knows may surpass him

I think ideally next year Jiricek is in the AHL honing his game things could change drastically with him that wouldnt shock me either. Your prospect candidates on the horizon for '26-'27 would likely be:

Lindstein
Burns
Ralph
Loof
Gaudet
Buchinger

I mentioned in another thread that I think Lindstein could become a #1D, but might cap at a #2-4 (more probable).

I generally agree, but would classify #1D as the guy who plays in all situations. Parayko doesn't quite have the hands to man the point on the PP where we all want to see his booming shot. Fowler does, but isn't quite the defensive stalwart (though I would say is very good in his own end). They make a great top pairing. Is either as good as Petro in his prime? Perhaps not in terms of all situations.

Lindstein is well above his peers from a defensive standpoint but he’s simply very unlikely to ever be classified as an offensive d-man like Fowler. They’re just very different players. If your question was, who’s going to be our next Gustav Forsling, I would’ve said Lindstein. Lindstein isn’t likely to be a guy you’d you on the PP for example. He could probably handle it fine but ideally you also have better options. He’s the type that’ll play a lot 5 on 5 and the PK though.
