That title should read, "Cards have three of the top five rental relievers available". I'm speculating that Mo could come away with some fine prospects for all three. But at the trade deadline, does Mo just keep all three if the Cards are either within five of the Central and/or three of the wildcard?

Thanks for the info. Actually, Maton likely should get as much interest as Matz. And I would think Maton may be cheaper for the remainder of the season.

Mo was all over Arenado and Goldy in those trades and yet the Rockies and DBacks got nothing of gamechanging substance in return.

Well, if they aren't going to resign Helsley then they might as well get something for him. I'm not promoting that by any means because they could well find themselves in a playoff game. Stranger things have happened.

If the Cardinals are more than five games out of the division race and/or more than three out of the wildcard race. They really need to trade at least two of the three mentioned in the article for prospects.

If he finishes 2025 with numbers around where they are now, he'll have earned himself a multi-year deal this coming offseason. (And if he doesn't get offered one in that scenario, Maton's agent should be fired for willful negligence.)

Losing Helsley is going to be bad enough, losing Maton too would weaken the 2026 bullpen to a level we don't want to see.

I'm not dealing him, I'm inking him to a two year deal at the ASB (but BDWJr won't) and he'll probably be dealt.

If he goes too, then the 2026 pen' is going to be one hot mess.

You trade all three. "But how do we replace Maton?" The same way we replaced Kittredge, the same way we replaced VerHagen, and so on. There will ALWAYS be another Maton type, Kittedge type, VerHagen type available for next season. Matz is a failed starter/decent reliever...easy to replace. Helsley will be the hardest, but he's NOT the Helsley of last season so it would be best to bring in a stop-gap until we find our next closer from within than overpay for Helsley. What you don't do is re-up any of these guys, you thank them and move on with the rebuild that isn't really a rebuild yet because of clowns like Mikolas and Fedde still pitching, but you get the idea.
