Won BBQ contest for 2nd time in 4yrs with…..

Post by rezero »

….Mauls. About 5 yrs ago I was making Babyback ribs for a regional BBQ contest in Knoxville. The method I use is a dry rub the night before, then lather with BBQ sauce and seal in aluminum foil the morning of the contest. Cook in the aluminum packet at 250F for 4-1/2 hrs. The taken them out of aluminum foil coat with BBQ sauce and cooke on grill for about 10 minutes per side to give it some char. For this contest my parents were visiting from St. Louis and gave me two bottles of Mauls original about a month earlier so I decided to use those and won the contest!

I tried the recipe the next 2 years using Sweet Baby Ray and did not place. Then for the heck of it I ordered two bottles of Mauls on Amazon and suprise won again this year!

I am not saying Mauls is the best BBQ sauce in the world, but it seems to work well for this recipe. It seems to gel up and thicken perfectly while on the grill.

Just wanted to pass along in case someone wants to try it out.

I used Maull's when I lived in StL. Loved it. Your recipe sounds great.

If you can't make your own sauce from scratch, then get out of town poser. Those judges must have been kindergarten children.

90% of people make their own sauce, yet Mauls beat them half the time :)
