No one has answered my question above that if Tucker is too expensive for the Cards, then who else should the Cards target for a corner OF spot?icon wrote: ↑08 Jul 2025 09:35 amThe competition with the Cubs makes this so obvious. And that is the archrival with a far superior OF to that of the Cardinals.bccardsfan wrote: ↑08 Jul 2025 09:21 amAgreed. The Noot experiment needs to be over. He is a nice guy to have as your fourth OFer. We need a corner OFer who can hit north of .270 with OPS over .800 AND play at least average D. Noot is not that guy. Sure, he is that guy for a month now and then, but the bulk of the time he is not. Burleson is a hard working kid who catches everything he gets to, but is slow and is actually a pretty decent first baseman. If WC were to vanish, Burley would be your every day first basemen until someone better came along. JW.. well we all hoped he would be that guy, and maybe somehow he and the uniKKKorn will make it. But you cannot bet the farm on that. We need that big OF middle of the order bat, and Noot is not that guy, nor is Burley. Unfortunately it is not looking like JW will be either.icon wrote: ↑08 Jul 2025 09:13 amNo way you keep Noot for a corner OF spot.JDW wrote: ↑08 Jul 2025 07:53 am My current thinking for next year is an inf of Donovan-Winn-Wetherholt-Contreras, with an OF of Herrera-VS2-Noot.
C's of Pages, Pozo, Crooks and Bernal. DH with mostly Burleson, Herrera and Gorman with both playing often in the field. Bench including a C, Saggese, Church, IDK.
Would it be great if the Cards signed a slugging corner OF'er? It'd be great imo but other than Tucker which seems very doubtful, who would that be?
Will Baez get his MLB opportunity in 2026? I think so and sure hope so, but he needs to keep pushing toward that goal with good production in milb.
Way too early to consider moving a good skilled infielder to CF. VS2's elite base running has value, and he's above average defensively in a key defensive position. Even this year he may get to a bWAR of around +3. That's currently trending to be 2nd on the team for a position player this year behind only Donovan. Let's see how he continues to develop.
Sure, won't argue more power would be nice, but currently Noot does lead the team in HR's and may tease 20 HR's this year.
The Cards could move Donovan to LF next year but then need a power hitting 3B. Who's that going to be and how are you going to trade away Arenado with his NTC?
I just went with current personnel. Maybe there's a good amount of trades this off season with Bloom taking over, but that's just speculation.
A Baez MLB breakout next year could help solve the teams lack of power, but obviously they shouldn't count on that happening.
Herrera learning LF this off season and being able to stay healthy could go a long way.

Sorry Wolfe but Corbin Carroll did NOT playing any infield in the minors. Plus his high school coach put him in the OF as a freshman, so no KNOWN high school infield time.
Here's a link to his minor league record. Either you or Shady find a infield game in it.

Actually, that might have been the Padres' Jackson Merriil instead of Corbin that I was referring to.. If so, sorry for the misinformation. I'm pretty sure it was one of the two. My point being, Wetherholt seems to have the athleticism to convert to the outfield, possibly CF like Merrill.HorseTrader wrote: ↑09 Jul 2025 10:59 amNo, I posted a link to his high school coach. Re: Who's the better defensive shortstop? Scott in CF.
You are correct. Craviduce pointed out to me previously in thread so I researched further and he (and you) were right. I think I got a bad return on results from an AI query.HorseTrader wrote: ↑09 Jul 2025 10:58 amCorneliusWolfe wrote: ↑08 Jul 2025 16:53 pmCC played some IF in minors but not in bigs.Shady wrote: ↑08 Jul 2025 16:28 pmMaybe not as a pro. But I'm pretty sure Corbin was an infielder at some point earlier. To me, there is no doubt Wetherholt's athleticism could transition into a very good defensive CF. This would only be necessitated by making more room for Donovan, Gorman and Saggese.HorseTrader wrote: ↑08 Jul 2025 14:14 pmYou are mistaken. In his pro career he's played OF including some in CF but ZERO infield.Shady wrote: ↑08 Jul 2025 08:31 amI could be mistaken, but I seem to recall Corbin being a converted infielder. And I believe he's played some CF for Arizona.HorseTrader wrote: ↑08 Jul 2025 07:42 amWhat stud for the DBacks? Their CF (Alek Thomas) didn't move from SS to CF. I also doubt anyone considers him a stud (except for you). Now if so happens that you are confused and were thinking about their RF Corbin Carroll, well he is a good player but far as I can tell he never played SS.Shady wrote: ↑07 Jul 2025 20:00 pmGood post. But Wetherholt to CF could easily turned out like the stud for Arizona. IMO. It would sure help fitting both Saggese and Gorman into a future lineup. I'm concerned about Scott's strikeout rate.CorneliusWolfe wrote: ↑07 Jul 2025 19:40 pmWinn is already one of the best defensive SS in the game with an elite throwing arm. Your plan also gives up on VS very early, who is also an elite defender. If you're already strong up the middle, why disrupt? Defense is one of this teams only real sustainable strengths. TIred of seeing defense undervalued.
JJW at CF will also delay his arrival unless you want another Jordan Walker situation where he has to learn a new position at the ML level.
JJW should either replace Donovan who turns 29 before next season or Arenado if he waives NTC and moves on. I'm thinking they might sell high on Donovan if JJW shows strong at Memphis. They've already haggled him hard in arbitration.
One or the other of them may have played a little SS in high school but that's the end of it. Both started their pro careers in the OF. The only similarity is they were drafted out of high school.
Sundin knew from day one that Carroll would be special. He placed Carroll at the leadoff spot and in the outfield right away, knowing he would be able to help the team, which was unusual for a freshman. Sundin was his high school coach.

Sorry Wolfe but Corbin Carroll did NOT playing any infield in the minors. Plus his high school coach put him in the OF as a freshman, so no KNOWN high school infield time.
Here's a link to his minor league record. Either you or Shady find a infield game in it.

Third time is a charm... the word you're looking for is "clique."Shady wrote: ↑08 Jul 2025 17:48 pmOne simple question. Why don't you ignore me after you advised your click to ignore me?craviduce wrote: ↑08 Jul 2025 17:19 pmno put down attempts. I never do that with you. You made a claim...people answered the claim. Keep it friendly, don't start name calling or insults, Shady.Shady wrote: ↑08 Jul 2025 17:17 pmWhy the put down attempts? Why be so defensive? Everybody knows your the greatest on CT. You advised your click to ignore me but you can't. What's the deal?craviduce wrote: ↑08 Jul 2025 17:14 pmyeah? Which broadcast, is it still available? Like I indicated. And made the transition to the outfield as a pro. Is that a possible scenario?craviduce wrote: ↑08 Jul 2025 16:57 pmthe stats I'm looking at, Corbin Carroll played 3 positions in the Minors ...2019, 2021, 2022...and those were LF, RF, CF.CorneliusWolfe wrote: ↑08 Jul 2025 16:53 pmCC played some IF in minors but not in bigs.Shady wrote: ↑08 Jul 2025 16:28 pmMaybe not as a pro. He's never played infield as a pro...
