Mo put together a team with a bunch of players with 0 trade value and kept fedde when he should have traded him in the off season when he had value he’s kept helsley and is keeping him as his value continues to go down
I don't get the fascination with trading your closer when you are in a playoff race?
It’s pretty simple the question would be are you trying to build a team that actually win in the post season and be good in the future and trade him or keep him in the hope and prayer that you sneak into the post season for another one and done and helsley leaves as a free agent with nothing in return
Helsley gets a QO and we get a draft pick. That’s more than we’d get in trade anyway. Wacha was a compensation pick.
Not a chance.

A work stoppage is coming after 2026. This ownership isn't going to throw that kind of money on a closer who you could argue his best days are behind him.
There will be no work stoppage after 2026 since there are no major issues to resolve at this time. They can take a 1 year extension if need be.
Huh?

What team do you believe wants him, and what possible return do you hope for?

Barking Lion wrote: 09 Jul 2025 04:52 am This place continues to amaze me. Posters who think they know everything and that everyone agrees with them draw disagreement from others who think they know everything and that everyone agrees with them. The conclusion? No one knows everything. The easiest job in the world is the postseason critic. He gets all the data after the fact... except the whole story.

We don't really know what the Cards were offered, if anything, for Fedde, Mikolas or Helsley. The only one we have decent info on is NA and we know that he turned down those trades. Everybody laughs at the poster who proposes a trade of Fermin for Ohtani because it's unrealistic. It is just as realistic to pretend that the FO can make trades that may not exist.

We all know what we would like to see. We want to see the team win. We have different views of how it could happen. Discussion is healthy. We share ideas and its good for the soul. But let's at least be smart enough to realize that we're missing a lot of facts. None of us know everything unless you're in the FO, and there is no way they would hire persons so disloyal to the team.
We know that Houston wanted Arenado, and that other teams were interested, if we ate a large portion of his salary. Never was an actual return ever discussed. I believe it’s because there was none.

We have the most passive, sit on hands, scared, do nothing POBO in the history of pro sports who couldn’t trade a Rolex for a ham sandwich
Whose favorite line is “We need to see what we have”……..think about that, it’s his job and people who work under him to KNOW what they have
As far as Miles and Fedde…..they obviously had greater value in the offseason, especially Fedde, than they do now as they’ve been exposed as an auto loss. You Jokers come on here and spew this nonsense that “nobody knows nothing” and “it’s really hard”…..you should go work for MO

lol you’re crazy if you think they give him a QO. Cardinals are not going to risk paying a closer 20 million they won’t do it it won’t happen if you think they will you haven’t seen how the cardinals operate or have been drinking heavily. Cards will get nothing for him. With Dewitt reducing payroll bloom can’t waste 20 million on a closer
Helsley will never accept a QO. He's going to get minimum 4/80 and probably more like 5/125 in free agency. He's not going to accept 20 million. The Cardinals should be disbanded if they don't give him the QO.

I actually agree that there may be a work stopage because I think owners want a salary cap of sorts. They don't want 70 million per year salaries.

This is irrelevant. We never were going to get more than JAGs for those guys. We got Nado for nothing we’ve missed.

To get what we need - a real bat, we have to trade players with control or from the minors. Excess middle infielders, or Walker or Gorman maybe.
This is so true. Many on here think that other MLB teams will cough up their prize prospects for our bench players. Bloom will work from the organizational surplus at catcher, middle infielder and left handed outfielder to try to bring back some starting pitching and right handed outfield help.

During the off season, it appeared that Mo had an opportunity to trade our pending free agents for some starting pitching and right handed outfield help. Because of poor performance and now Nado's injury, most of those opportunities are now gone. This is another example of Mo's poor timing--not knowing when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em. Mo leaves Bloom with a bit of a mess to clean up--an injured Nado who is wildly overpaid, at least one gaping hole in his starting rotation, and no bonafide stars to build around. Good luck Chaim!

Thanks for proving my point. Unless you are in the FO, you know nothing about what may have happened in the offseason with Mik and Fedde. Sure they had greater value, but that doesn't mean someone offered that greater value. Your merely guessing from what you want to see. Your windows are looking in.

They WON'T get a CAP, ever.

But they WILL get a rule change, a CAP on DEFERRED money that stops teams like the Dodgers from an Ohtani type deal.

Owners have been trying hard for decades.

The MLBPA has made it clear they will never, ever accept a salary cap (even though we fans desperately want one including me).

Too much money to be lost on both sides, the calculus is way different now than it was 30 years ago (1994-95)!

(I don't count the 12/21' - 3/22' lockout since a full 162 game season was played)

Owners w/franchises now valued in the multi billions, players now making multiple millions they'll never recover due to the aging curve in sports.

I don't see there being a long strike, if any.
