Yes, after the excitement of the JJ pick, it was really deflating. Now, maybe these guys turn out really good, but all these small guys for whatever reason was very strange.

Well they were really drafting hit and on base skills. Also ability to play defensively. Several just happened to be ... less tall.Ronnie Dobbs wrote: ↑08 Jul 2025 11:39 amYes, after the excitement of the JJ pick, it was really deflating. Still early to evaluate that draft. The 2 injured pitchers are off the IL. Some of these hitters may play besides JJ.

I’m not sure the Cardinals pass on Arnold if he’s there and take a HS project. I’m not sold on any of the 3 LH college pitchers but the Cardinals aren’t high on taking risks. I would personally pass on all 3 lefties but the Cardinals have to show me they are willing to take a risk.

Unless there's an Ike Irish curveball, I believe you're right on the money. It's going to come down to Jamie Arnold or a HS SS...pick one of Willits, Carlson, or Parker. And also to your point, the Cards don't have a risk taking persona when it comes to drafting. Often times taking what falls to them.Whatashame wrote: ↑08 Jul 2025 22:34 pm I’m not sure the Cardinals pass on Arnold if he’s there and take a HS project. They sure do. That’s how I got a baby brother 9 years after I was born.82birds wrote: ↑07 Jul 2025 11:26 ammistakes happen.craviduce wrote: ↑07 Jul 2025 11:25 amI think it's just an honest mistake. If the plan would be to draft BOTH Parker kids , the Cardinals may need to grab Jacob twin earlier than slotted. .. to get both.Jobafish wrote: ↑07 Jul 2025 00:24 am My 3 round cardinal mock draft.
5. JoJo Parker- cardinals fall in love with the Mississippi high school shortstop. Has enough pop to move to third if needed.
55. JB Middleton- ace potential with 3 plus pitches. Falls to 55 because of size.
72. Jacob Parker- Bash brothers are coming to stl. We finally get a decent rf prospect. Has great exit velos and enough arm to man right field.
89. Aj Russell- Tommy John surgery kept him from being a 1st rounder. Has an 80 grade fastball. Worst case he becomes our closer.
Cards also draft Mizzou qb horn in the 7th round. Book it.

I'm not sure. It's Flores' draft, and Mo will be in the room, as it's his last draft.82birds wrote: ↑08 Jul 2025 23:10 pmdoes Bloom change that?craviduce wrote: ↑08 Jul 2025 22:50 pmUnless there's an Ike Irish curveball, I believe you're right on the money. That's an interesting question, 82. What is the philosophy this year? Do you pigeon hole the incoming guy? Do you buck all the work done by Mo's guys (Flores and Company?)
I don't know how the politics in the room will play out.

I have to be honest. I don’t know much about Irish. I have read what you and others have written but I don’t remember seeing him play. Just read his stats. We could use an outfield bat. From what I have read he probably isn’t sticking behind the plate plus this happens to be a Cardinals strength.
I watched Arnold pitch probably 4-5 times and I was not overly impressed. I would prefer they take a chance on their scouts and choose who the scouts thought was the best HS talent but that just doesn’t seem to be the Cardinals way.

That’s the million dollar question. Who makes the final decision. If it’s Mo, I think he runs to the podium to pick Jamie Arnold. If it’s Chaim bloom, it’s probably one of the high school shortstops. Ive researched his previous pics, and he really likes picking high school prospects early in the draft. Teel being the only college player drafted in the first two rounds from 20-23 for Boston’s. Even dating back to his rays days. In 2019 when the rays drafted mcClanahan at 31, they still drafted liboritore first with pick 14.craviduce wrote: ↑08 Jul 2025 23:19 pmI'm not sure. Willets gives me Mickey Moniak vibes lol. I hope I’m wrong.
Re: 2025 MLB Draft Room ~ Thread, Mocks, Discussion, Draft Boards
I loved willets until I read an article giving out grades to every #1 pick the last 10yrs. When I read Moniaks scouting report, it almost identical to willets. Only difference being willets is a switch hitter.

While in control in Boston, Bloom wasn't shy about draft prep position players at high picks, including Roman Anthony, Marcelo Mayer and Nick Yorke. Bloom will be taking control of the Cardinals front office after this season, so it is an open question if his preferences will be felt a few months before he is the team's top decision-maker.
