He’s been pretty much as expected. Maybe even better, these last 3 starts notwithstanding. They need to figure out how to get him back to where he was 4 starts ago. This is why he didn’t have as high of value in the offseason as many of you thought. If YOU were worried about regression, don’t you think the other teams were as well?
I don’t think a lot of people thought he had a high value but like I said in the off season his value was at its highest and should be traded
There were two things that have conspired for this to be a difficult situation. First, Fedde is on a cheap contract and the Cards were absolutely short on SP. There was no way they were going to trade Fedde if it meant replacing him with a more expensive SP. Second, I don't think the Cards really thought they would have a winning record this far into the season. So, if Fedde wasn't pitching well, it wouldn't stand out. Therefore, the primary reason he was not traded was for budgetary reasons.
The problem is that outside of McGreevy, they don't have anyone else remotely ready to start at the ML level. McGreevy got hammered in his last start. Lets hope that is just a blip since he is likely to start Saturday against Atlanta in place of Fedde. The Cards were in a tough spot last winter in terms of SP. If they had went out and signed another veteran, Liberatore may not be getting a shot this year. In retrospect, signing a veteran to a 1 year deal and trading Fedde would likely have been a good idea. But, if that veteran cost more than Fedde's $7M, the Dewitt's were not going to go for that.

It may not be him. It might be his fielders. They’re not very subtle when it comes to shifting with the pitch. You can pretty much watch Winn and you can read pitch and location.
Talk about overanalysis. If fielders were tipping pitches, how do you explain the success of Gray, Liberatore and Pallante? Among others. I prefer to give blame where blame is due.

Nobody is happy with Mikolas and Fedde. But like you said only McGreevy appears ready to step in and that is rapidly approaching.
Nobody gets more excited about adding pitching than I do but signing someone to huge deals with the risks of injury makes me nervous!
