Re: Nationals fire POBO and Manager
Former St. Louis Cardinal Miguel Cairo has been named the Nats interim manager. And his first game as interim manager will be vs the Cardinals.
Re: Nationals fire POBO and Manager
No one needs to get fired this year as when Bloom takes over and if he wants to fire and hire his own guy (my guess is he will) that will be the time.
My only question is this. If the Cardinals become sellers this month (I really hope they do) who is making the moves to get the right prospects in return?
If it's still MO, then I hope they don't deal as that will only delay this teams rebuild more years. I really hope Bloom calls these shots as it will affect his regime a lot more than the present one.

I have no knowledge of the details on the release of Rizzo. Have seen situations like this in other sports from time to time.
Martinez was tied to the hip with Rizzo . It might be that ownership wanted Martinez OUT and told Rizzo to 'can ' the manager. Rizzo may have said 'No way ! ' I am not firing him ... If you want to fire him , you have to fire me too . Not going to fire Martinez for you .
So ownership fires them both . Just my guess ! In certain situations , a GM may have tremendous loyalty to the coach /manager. Also , a guy like Rizzo with 15 years ? with that organization should be pretty well off $$$ . It's not like losing his job puts him on poor street.

The Nationals have made an in-season shake-up of their organization, as ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports that president of baseball operations Mike Rizzo and manager Dave Martinez have both been fired.
