No kidding. Hampson is getting close to this 3rd release this season. Why this guy in the middle of a supposed reset?Cranny wrote: ↑06 Jul 2025 21:07 pmMakes absolutely no sense. Versatile mediocrity? Enough please. He’s a career underperformer and the league knows it. Is there not a better option in our system? Victor sits for him while Fedde offers another butt-ugly outing. What a surprise.

Mo doesn’t want to trade or sign anyone who is better than his current band of JAGS

This is. Lear and obvious. Sign the cheapest guy off the street. To heck with winning. Save those bucks.

This is the real problem.OregonRedbird wrote: ↑06 Jul 2025 19:21 pm It’s also time to accept the inconvenient and ugly reality that Noot is overrated and may always flirt with the Mendoza line.
And WAY too much time has been wasted on waiting for him to figure it out. He's my candidate for being cleared out. Solves some of the PT issues. Walker comes back, goes to RF, Burly to LF. Then Gorman is your guy who gets five starts a week covering DH, 2B, and 3B. Maybe even first base if we're putting Burly in LF only.

Re: Hampson
I would make Nootbaar and Walker available at the deadline. Surely somebody takes a chance on one of them. Burleson and Donovan can fill in the vacant OF spot. Gorman gets 2b, DH, and 3b pt.
As for Hampson, this signing makes no sense whatsoever. Bring up a minor leaguer. Heck, bring up Fermin. He has at least hit some in his limited time this year.

Re: Hampson
I'm sorry but someone on this forum told me--and everyone else--that Hampson was the "perfect" addition to this roster. A RHH outfielder who wouldn't stunt the growth of players needing at-bats in the minors and would help spell all of these poor, overworked, and downright tired Cardinals who just really really wanted some rest because come on! It's hot out there they just really really really need a break.
Don't remember his name but I think he's a scout or something so he must know what he's talking about.

Look, I'm not going to tell you that Hampson is a good player. But he is an ideal 26th man.
Hampson's problem is that he's not getting 26th man playing time. Hampson is not the problem. He's the symptom of the problem.

He is not a major league player, no matter if it's the 26th man. You still need that man to perform somewhat.Strummer Jones wrote: ↑06 Jul 2025 23:56 pm Look, I'm not going to tell you that Hampson is a good player. But he is an ideal 26th man.

Re: Hampson
That 26th man needs to be in for defense and pinch running. Not taking starter's AB's in a game against a rival in a pennant race who are throwing arguably their best pitcher. I don't care if it's Hampson, Barrero, a thawed Ted Williams...anyone. The Hampson spot is meant to be a guy you start in a game against some scrub's fifth starter on a Tuesday.icon wrote: ↑06 Jul 2025 23:59 pmHe is not a major league player, no matter if it's the 26th man. Re: Hampson
That kind of use is impossible with only a bench of 4 guys and 1 is the backup catcher. Get real. He needs to be able to perform in more ways than just catching the ball in center field. He already has been released by two other teams who found better 26th men than he.Strummer Jones wrote: ↑07 Jul 2025 00:09 amThat 26th man needs to be in for defense and pinch running. Re: Hampson
You're not understanding what I'm saying. If you have to rely on your 26th man to produce, you're up a creek. Hampson is garbage--we agree. But there's no way he should be in any sort of must-win scenario. Nor should any other 26th man. On any team. Anywhere. At any time.icon wrote: ↑07 Jul 2025 00:18 amThat kind of use is impossible with only a bench of 4 guys and 1 is the backup catcher. Get real. Re: Hampson
They don't want to win. They want to drag through the season doing just enough to make people believe and hope they can pull off a miracle. They get some money and they can cheap out. Why else would you give playing time to the Siani's, Hampson's , Mikolas's, Fedde's of the world? Players that other teams would laugh at. It has to be on purpose. No body with their track record is that inept.OregonRedbird wrote: ↑06 Jul 2025 18:59 pm Why? Versatile mediocrity? Enough please. He’s a career underperformer and the league knows it.
