This is what you get when an incompetent putz is allowed to have free reign of the franchise. It starts with DeWitt. He has kept Mo far too long and has given him too much power.
Then blame falls to Mo. His arrogance has set the franchise back years. He won with players Jeff Luhnow drafted. He thought he could outsmart the league with Girsch's analytics. He got lazy and never tried to truly compete for free agents. He allowed a once great farm and development system deteriorate. He insisted on hiring rookie managers because they wouldn't challenge his authority. When one did, he was fired.
As much as I don't care for marmol, I find little blame to give him. He is a pud who was put in a position he isn't qualified for. He manages according to Mo's directives. Yeah, he's laughing in the dugout. Because he's been paid millions to be below average at his job.

When the call came in from Mo about managing the Cards, Oli actually had to think about it for 2 reasons -Basil Shabazz wrote: ↑06 Jul 2025 20:24 pm A real manager demands accountability from the front office.
Oli took the job for the money and fame. Not because he was qualified. Doesn't exempt Mo either. They both suck.
But the thread is about Oli.
1.) He knew he didn’t have the background or experience to be a big league manager.
2.) He knew he would be in a public pressure pot
instead of a less pressure behind the scenes position.
But it was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

That pressure pot disappeared when Mo extended him and said there was no pressure to win.Cranny wrote: ↑06 Jul 2025 20:56 pmWhen the call came in from Mo about managing the Cards, Oli actually had to think about it for 2 reasons -Basil Shabazz wrote: ↑06 Jul 2025 20:24 pm A real manager demands accountability from the front office.

Where has Waino gone??? You couldn’t turn on a baseball game without some Waino (bleep)….haven’t seen the camera hog lately….has his time run?45s wrote: ↑06 Jul 2025 19:42 pmGood observationjanb526 wrote: ↑06 Jul 2025 19:40 pm When the TV cameras catch him in the dugout, there he is smiling, laughing and having a good time even when the Cardinals are stinking up the field. Super Slo Mo did indeed precede The Marmot.Jatalk wrote: ↑06 Jul 2025 20:03 pmMo hired him. Mo put the team on the field. Mo let the farm system go to pot. Mo is responsible for player development. Reminds me of Wainwright's last year….
These actions by Marmol, Waino, Mikolas and other members of the “Fun Bunch” I referenced in another thread are mainly responsible for the “it is okay to lose” culture that you've seen on display the past few years.
Small progress this year - but more of the disease must be cut out.
Beginning with The Marmot.
Oli is the leader of the toxic culture.
Mo sucks for many other reasons.
The TOXIC CULTURE was created by Mo - as I was first to identify and explain to all long ago.
But that does not let The Marmot off the hook - and he, not Mo is the topic of this thread as selected by the OP.
He is the manager - what happens on the filed and in the dugout is fully his responsibility.
He has made many, many mistakes in judgement over the past 3 years and is very clearly not the man for the job in the current circumstances.
Too weak.
Too much of a yes man.
Too inconsistent in handling players.
Too skittish.
Too deferential.
Too slow.
Yes - he is TOXIC.

Oli is not a good manager. Should be fired. No doubt. But with a good manager I don’t think record is a lot different. Maybe a game or two better.Melville wrote: ↑06 Jul 2025 22:24 pmHe has badly mismanaged the teams he has been given.Jatalk wrote: ↑06 Jul 2025 19:56 pmDon’t disagree but he has to manage the team he is given. Oli has proven time and again he CAN'T steer his team out of a storm when it hits, they simple continue to sink while he yuck's it up w/his pals in the dugout.
