This is one of the many things that makes you annoying. You clearly didn't think it was a legacy pick. If you had, you would not have said quite a few pitchers are far, far more worthy including Gray. Gray and those pitchers wouldn't be legacy picks at this point in their careers. But rather than admit you made a mistake you lie and act like you knew it was a legacy pick all along. Clearly you didn't or you would have referenced it in your original post.Melville wrote: ↑06 Jul 2025 17:17 pmI referenced that in my post.icon wrote: ↑06 Jul 2025 17:13 pmYou don't understand legacy status when it comes to the ASG. 3.43 ERA; 1.254 WHIP, and just 6.4 K/9.
Not remotely deserving of making the squad - yet there he is (courtesy of a corrupt appointment on the part of Manfred).
Quite a few pitchers who are far, far more worthy.
Gray is one of them: 17 starts; 1.080 WHIP, 9.6 K/9 - while averaging a full inning more per game.
There are easily a dozen similar examples.
Perhaps you missed that?
I understand it with perfection - which is why I am opposed to it.
This is the 2025 ASG - and Kershaw has not earned it.
"Legacy" recognition belongs in the HOF.
Not on the field.

So, with an abundance of patience and graciousness, I will again point out the fact that it was I who first mentioned this was an appointment by Manfred.
I will kindly leave it to you as to whether you have simply failed to comprehend that fact or are denying that fact for whatever your reasons may be.
I will not ascribe motive or malice on your part.
That Manfred appointed Kershaw for marketing reasons, rather than for being a member of the 2025 squad based on merit this season, is the very point of the thread and has been from the first post.

Re: Kershaw ASG???
Even Stan Musial, late in his career, got a few picks to the ASG just because he was Stan Musial.
Re: Kershaw ASG???
My only time seeing Willie Mays play in person was at his last All Star game in Kansas City in 1973, a classic legacy pick.
Very glad to have the opportunity to see him.

And now Misiorowski.
One pitcher named for reasons of nostalgia.
Another named for the reason of hyping a kid.
Neither have any business being on the squad.
Such a disservice to those who have actually earned a spot this year.
Society - including MLB - continues to abandon merit.

I love seeing both of them on the roster!
Re: Kershaw ASG???
the whole selection process has become a washed out joke. There have now been 80 players selected (appointed) to this all star game if you count the players who were selected and can't play due to injury, or pitchers who were selected and cannot pitch due to pitching games right before the all star game and needed replacements to fill out the active player roster

Way too diluted. You’re down to regular players at this point, especially pitchers.Adam2 wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 10:11 am the whole selection process has become a washed out joke. I was recently looking up the 15 inning All Star game from 1967 and saw that Bill Freehan caught the entire game in spite of the fact that there were two other catchers on the AL roster. Incredible.

Does Sonny Gray or quite a few other starters deserve to be on before Misiorowski? Absolutely.
But the high majority of fans watching will be much more excited for Misiorowski to come in throwing 103 than watching a Sonny Gray 91mph cutter
again, i agree with your point, but that's not how this game is treated any more. It's become more of a circus
