Jo Adell comparable to Walker?

Post by vegascardsfan5890 »

1st round pick with the Angels. Was considered their top prospect the next Trout.

Came up at age 21 with the Angels. Struggled for the better part of the next 5 seasons (.211/.268/.381).

The Angels kept shuttling him between the majors and minors during those 5 seasons.

FINALLY, at age 26 and in his 6th MLB season, it seems to be paying off for Anaheim.
He is currently hitting .251/.322/.506 with 19 Home Runs and 52 RBIs playing every day in CF.

Will the Cardinals have enough patience with Walker like the Angels did with Adell? You could argue the Angels could/should have traded him while he still had value, but they stuck with him.

So in year 6 of 6 with team control. See the reason? He’s nearing FA. Buyer beware. If you would spend $25-$30m per for Adell based on 1 season then yes keep Walker because that’s what you setting yourself up for

Adell is in year 6, but he still has 2 more years of control beyond this year because he’s spent a good portion of the 6 in the minors.

In Walker’s case they have to make a decision on whether they demote him this year and burn the final option or keep him up as much as they can (and use the rehab time right now as much as they can) and then keep the option left for next year to maybe use it for a full year if the new front office determines that has to happen.

Interesting observation.
Not without merit.
But the difference is, Adell consistently showed a considerably higher ceiling than Walker throughout his minor league seasons.
Walker did look very promising in his stint with STL in 2023 - but there have been alarm bells ever since.
Too soon to call him a bust - but certainly should be available as a trade piece in the right circumstances.

Jo Adell is 6’2 225 twitchy athlete who has figured it out from a pitch selection standpoint, always had the tools

Jordan Walker is a stiff 6’5” 250 player without a clue from pitch selection perspective or solid lower base
