Our Calder Candidates

Post by DawgDad »

Could it be Jimmy is no longer our shoo-in candidate for the Calder?

I'd rather have a Cup than a Calder

I take mine black, every morning with breakfast. But, yeah.

Aside from the Stanley Cup the only award I really put much stock in is the Vezina. Well, now that's tarnished, too.

This is especially true for a 3rd baseman.

Snuggy is still our leading candidate, especially if he plays with Buch and Thomas most of the year. Kids gonna be set up for a monster of a season.

But you're right that he's not our only candidate. If Mailloux gets ample PP time, he could very easily have a monster season of his own. I know the sample size is ridiculously small, but he's already pacing for 20 goals/50 points at the NHL level(2 goals, 5 points in 8 games; pretty simple math). If he comes even close to maintaining that pace, he's gonna get some Calder notice even if he doesn't clean up his projected -40.

And Dvorsky could easily enter the discussion as a dark horse candidate. He probably won't get the same opportunities as Snuggy and Maillox, but he's got the innate skill to produce and it's not like he'd be out there with scrubs. IMO it would be a bit unexpected for him to be a finalist, but I'm not going to write him off completely.

Having said all that, we don't even know for sure what the rookie field is going to look like next year. It's just way too early in the process. But one guy we do know about is going to be very stiff competition(Demidov).

I'm throwing Frondell's name into this group with the hope he plays with Nazar or Bedard should he make the team.
