It's that time of year again, where does your Screen Name come from?

I'm tall and skinny and smoke a lot of weed. It just fits.

Not too difficult to break the code on mine, one of my kids graduated from UGA. If I had based it on me it would be "Washed Up".

Perhaps the best band name ever. Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes.

Mine is dumb.
I was northwest_dave forever. Even back in the Postnet days for your oldies.
Then sometime in the late 2000's or early teens, they did a purge. For some reason I couldn't get my username back. It was the trade deadline so I panicked and used the name I was given to login to my work computer.
That's right. My name is from the computer geek that he randomly chose as a login name.
I thought of changing it during this last purge, but why, it kind of stuck.

Homage to the best 4 years of my 22 years in the military. My time in the US Navy. I joined to honor my grandfather, a WW II veteran and my uncle, a Desert Storm veteran. Haze gray and underway
Is a term used in the Navy. 977 was my ships hull number. I, too, am a veteran of Desert Storm and also Operation Enduring Freedom.

Mine's a name I used to record under.

People probably always thought mine was Skilles as in Skill but plural but its based closely to my actual name. Just spelled one letter different.

When I went to grad school in 2004, I was suddenly spending lots of time at a computer for the first time and discovered Blues Talk forum. I was trying to think of something obscure and noteworthy from Blues history, and Harold Snepsts' mustache was the first thing that came to my head for some reason. I spelled Snepsts wrong and used the European spelling "moustache" (rather than "mustache", which is more common here in the US), but other than that, I'm pretty happy with it!

I’ve been driving a truck for 20 years. I’d say 97% of the games I catch are on radio. Now you just need an app going down the road instead of listening to a static KMOX a few hundred miles away.

It is after midnight but I look forward to this time of year and reading the answers to this question that everyone has written. I am just an ordinary hockey fan who has been to and watched Blues games since 1967, therefore I am old (72). So why the Russdv14 ? Nothing pretentious about me, and I don't try to be too controversial so I use my real name (and definitely not saying anything about the creative or practical names you all use).
Some of you long-timers already just call me Russ (my 1st name). My last name starts with D so there is the Russd The 14 has been my jersey # since high school. I probably attribute that to loving baseball, and Ken Boyer wearing 14. But Blues Hockey became my love of a lifetime, so I enjoyed watching Tim Ecclestone in the early years so continued with the number. I even created my own Blues "jersey" in the 70's with a #14 hand sewn on it. I bought a Blues logo and some gold ribbon like material and a dark blue turtle neck sweater and sewed all up. It is complete with decorative gold shoulder pieces, gold arm & waist bands. I wore that home made "jersey" for gym hockey, floor hockey and bank lot hockey . I still have my original nets we used at the bank lot in U City. I went to about 10 games a season the1st 3 seasons before moving on the college. I still have that jersey hanging in my closet over 50 years later but too small to wear.
So that is how I had the Screen Name, Russd14 for the longest time. Then, when we were forced to change screen names a handful of years ago, I added the "v" to make it easier for this old brain to remember. Thus, the Russdv14 I use to this day-the variation on my name and sports # .

Nothing exciting on my end….my old screen name was a combination of my kid’s names, but then the “Great Blues Talk Purge of 1948” took place and I needed a new name. Ok, I guess the that purge was only 10 years or so ago. I was watching House of Cards at the time and Frank Underwood was such a great character, so I went with that. This was before any Kevin Spacey scandal, obviously, but then when that happened, the Frank Underwood name seemed to bother Bleeder……so I absolutely HAD to keep it!

Younghopp was a nickname i got during a darker time in my life while I was incarcerated from the ages of 24-29. I was young, green, skinny and tall. So grasshopper/younghopp was created. Im not proud of who i once was, but dang proud of who i have become because of my trials and tribulations. Also why i am big on 2nd chances (monty, LM) long story short im lazy and try to keep the same username for most logins. I was actually in leavenworth when the blues won the cup. Me and a couple other STL guys locked down the sports tv and watched a majority of the cup series. My father and i are huge blues fans all the way back to me commentating cujo at a young age. Blues hockey is more than just a sport to me. Its a big foundation on why me and my dad still have a relationship as good as we do today.
Thats my rant. I got a little off topic but it all had purpose. LGB!!!

You can actually change it. Have to login to the StlToday main site and then there is an option there. Mine used to be HitchSucks when I got overly frustrated with him, but cooler heads prevailed. LolTAFKAP wrote: ↑05 Jul 2025 21:37 pmNah, keep it. Maybe we end up with a dynasty and it ends up as a positive. I don't think you can change it actually.SameOldBlues wrote: ↑05 Jul 2025 20:59 pm I went through a dark period of despair and disillusionment with the direction the Blues were heading, but then they got their sheeet together and 2019 happened. Id love to change my nick but I couldn’t find an option to when I looked after they won the Cup.
