The guy who needs to be shagging flies in the OF is I. Hererra when he's healthy.
The lack of a quality RH hitting bat in the outfield has plagued this team for more than a decade.
Of course the team should look at Herrera and Saggese as possible pieces - they have no other options.
Better yet - the team needs to do what I have advised for a decade.

I'm starting to think Mo go absolutely nothing of value from that trading deadline sell-off unless Roby stays healthy.

Hitting in the major leagues is hard. Soe of the young guys make it even harder. They seem to to try to yank everything out of the yard instead of going with the pitch. Walker and Gorman are extremely hard to watch. Saggese not a ton better.
Re: Saggese has started taking reps in the outfield
And let’s not forget Melville said that Carlson was by far the better outfielder! Ha. And it’s great to say “acquire a great OF,” but not offer any ideas how. Of course we know Mel’s big ideas were to spend $100 M for Chris Taylor and Michael Conforto! Ha ha. He doesn’t own up to these stupid statements.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑02 Jul 2025 18:46 pmWhen are you going to perfectly analyze when unikkorn is going to become a legitimate major leaguer he has got runway and is [defecating] all over it

Gorman will be exactly what I have said he would be - a consistent 25 HR+, 80 RBI, LH hitting infielder if given 600 PA's a year.
It is as certain as sunrise.
Walker has serious challenges to overcome.

With a Mendoza-line average (or worse), 200 K’s resulting in bad fundamental offense, such as an inability to move runners, and mediocre defense. Not exactly a stud. You are still right like 90% of the time though and that’s still pretty (bleep) good.

Basically, Gorman is a lefty hitting version of Tyler O'Neill. Minus O'Neill's blazing speed.CorneliusWolfe wrote: ↑03 Jul 2025 17:34 pmWith a Mendoza-line average (or worse), 200 K’s resulting in bad fundamental offense, such as an inability to move runners, and mediocre defense. Guess who the BEST Cardinal hitter is, among those with 200 or more PA's this season, at avoiding hitting into DP's.
Gorman has ONE - while Pages, Contreras, Donovan, Winn, N/A, Mootbaar, Herrera, and Burleson all range from 4 to 8.
Guess who leads the team in SAC flies?
Gorman again - tied with Burleson who has had 76 more PA's.
Looks like he is the most fundamentally sound and productive hitter on the team in advancing runners, by those metrics.
As for defense, he ranks in the middle of the pack by most metrics among Cardinals this year - and rates nearly identical to Arenado.
Gorman is no gold glove - but neither is he mediocre (and is certainly no Uggla according to defensive metrics).
I do appreciate your kind acknowledgement that I am correct more than 90% of the time, but I must point out that my tracking algorithm places my accuracy rate at precisely 98.89%.
Re: Saggese has started taking reps in the outfield
Melville, who has the highest strikeout rate on the team? It's probably Gorman. I'd rather have a consistent contact hitter, with maybe a little less power, like Burleson over Gorman. Re: Saggese has started taking reps in the outfield
Most of the players you cite have significantly more PA’s, some over 150 more (Herrera actually less than NG) Pages and Burleson fat bodies so not really a surprise. SAC flies surprising. I’m also interested in what metrics you use to ascertain NG=Arenado. I know on the backhand/throws across body play he’s looked pretty bad. Just because he has some similar range factor doesn’t mean he’s in the same class as even an old Arenado.Melville wrote: ↑03 Jul 2025 18:05 pm"...fundamental offense, such as an inability to move runners..." - are you sure about that?CorneliusWolfe wrote: ↑03 Jul 2025 17:34 pmWith a Mendoza-line average (or worse), 200 K’s resulting in bad fundamental offense, such as an inability to move runners, and mediocre defense.
