That rumor and the discussion that followed only carry any weight if noon tomorrow comes and we learn he was claimed by SJ (or, at least, that they put in a claim).
True story. The Sharks do have recency with this path though, as they claimed Goodrow from the Rags after he nixed a trade to them. Wouldn’t surprise me a bit if they claim him.
Agree and I remember the Goodrow thing. Kind of weird of the Sharks to keep taking on players who openly don't want to play there lol.
I'm just saying it caused a whole discussion on how Army treats players, just based on a radio rumor. But I'll admit those local guys probably have some connection so it may not be wrong.

This is good for both teams. The blues get below the cap and the sharks get above the floor.
The sharks will put him in a position to succeed, just like they did with cici and walman last year, getting points while ignoring the defensive aspect. Then come tdl desperate teams will offer a high pick for something that looks good and the sharks make out.
Getting a first for walman and getting a first for cici and grandlund were masterclass. Expect them to do the same with nick.
We were already below the Cap.
We're currently sitting with 8.1 mil in cap space.
IF we were inclined to do it, we could make a decent run at another higher end UFA(Ehler's may be out of range, but we could probably snag Roslovic if we wanted to).
I got us sitting at about 7 million and still way to much of it(5 million) in the press box.

Tucker was the best defenseman behind Fowler in the playoffs. If you want to throw Parayko in ahead of Tucker fine. Remember Monty loves Tucker and praised his offense. He was dominating out there, scared of nothing and built for playoff hockey. People here are forgetting what a loss it was when he blew out that knee in playoffs. Glad it wasn't as bad as it looked. He is a SOLID #5 defenseman for this season at his worst. Toughest guy on the team too.
I love Tucker for what he is but I found him to be an absolute train wreck defensively in the playoffs. He had a few good offensive moments but Winnipeg owned him as his feet just couldn’t keep up and he had trouble holding the blueline. That said, he was better than Suter. But whether it was Tucker or Suter, they both got caved in defensively against WPG in that series.
This is reality talking here. If Leddy gets claimed, the Blues will need to find another starting LD.
People forget that Tucker went through waivers unclaimed at the start of last season. JMO he maxes out as a #7 short term fill-in guy, like a Bortuzzo.
Start looking, as I believe Leddy is done in STL. Waivers is just to see if someone will pick him up, and they could. If not, they'll end the contract, like Saad last year, and Leddy will sign for less elsewhere so he can play more than he anticipates in the new Blues D corps.
Aaand what if Leddy would rather just keep the $3M and doesn’t agree to terminate the contract? Then what?
Mutual contract termination? I think we're a better team keeping him, but it appears the team has other plans, so perhaps we aren't better keeping Leddy, if the team has other plans. Speculation, based on appearance and Saad last year.
My point was what if he doesn’t agree to mutual contract termination? (which he didn’t) Doing so would forfeit the $3M owed to him for this season. He’d then be a UFA and able to sign with anyone but given the year he just had, there likely wouldn’t have been many suitors and not for anything close to $3M.
So now he gets to play in SJ and still gets the $3M. SJ likely wasn’t his ideal spot but tis the life of a player at the end of his career.

I assume he is now deadline fodder for a team that wants to bolster its D
So we tried to trade Leddy to SJ and he vetoed the trade only to end up there after all? You gotta think that the NHLPA will try to end that sort of thing happening in the next contract.
With that being said, can we please waive Texier and Joseph also?

Its called no movement clauses. No trade clause isnt same thing as nmc. He agreed to ntc. If he agreed to no movement clause, we wouldnt have been able to waive him to san jose. He just didnt negotiate that in his contract. Thisnisnt first time this has happened.
They camt ban san jose from being able to claim him off waivers. They have to have equal right of all other teams.
Armey needs to make a move on D. Is it a small move like a one year deal for a Jon Merril or Oliver Kylington type ( or Suter) as insurance or is there some bigger longterm thing like some are claiming with Byram? The latter means you are going to have to part with a current roster piece ( they want a top 6 forward to replace Peterka) so I do not see how that is going to happen unless it's a larger deal involving a compliant Kyrou. Again highly skeptical on that.

Yep. Sharks needed to spend money just to get to the cap floor. Their play here is to hope Leddy is pretty much over his weird neck nerve issue and can be a serviceable player. If so, he will absolutely be worth a decent pick at the trade deadline. And of course, he’s a vet that can help solidify their young D as well. Help show them what it takes to be a pro.
I wish Leddy well. He seems like a really good guy. There just wasn’t room for him here anymore. And bc of his neck nerve issue, the Blues went out and replaced him with Fowler and we simply can’t afford/justify to pay a 3rd pairing guy $4M on the cap. But SJ can.
Leddy’s 1000th NHL game happened to be here in MN and I took my son to it. Went down to the glass before the game and all his friends and family were there for warmups. Talked to a few of them and ended up sitting right next to the dad of his HS best friend. This guy was a talker and long story short, Leddy is definitely a good dude off the ice. His time here came to an end but I wish him well. Good Minnesota boy.

I would agree with this. Our top-4 is just as solid as it was last season (good but not spectacular) but a 3rd pairing of Tucker-Mailloux with Kessel penciled in as the #7, is full of question marks and very little experience.
We couldn’t justify Leddy at $4M but some vet for league minimum or close to it? Yes please.
I think the ship has sailed on Byram. Or maybe it’s just that I’m not super high on him so I’m hoping the Blues aren’t either. Idk. And no way would I move Kyrou for Byram.
Suter would be a good and cheap option to tutor Mailloux on the 3rd pair if he is inclined to return.
There will be injuries so Tucker will get time too.
The Blues were forced to way overuse Suter early in the season last year.
That’s why he broke down later in the year.
Suter had a stretch of 25 games in a row where he played over 20 minutes per game in mid October thru early December. In 16 of those games he played 23+ including one game where he received 33 minutes of ice time!

Seems like a great opportunity for him to be kind of a player/coach if he would want to do such a thing. I know there had been some talk about him being a locker room cancer, but we didn’t see any signs of that with the Blues.

Yes sir.
It's funny how young players like MayU are giving a chance at redemption for off ice indiscretions, but something like having the reputation for being a cancer in the room as a young player sticks with you for the rest of your career. Some people change (mature), some don't.
