Suter was a great signing. Losing Bolduc for Mailloux is very questionable. He may have size, but his defense is very suspect.

He can be taught defense if he's coachable. You can Not teach size and apeed.. he has both. Let's at least give the kid a,chance

Agree. He's still a kid and he brings some great tools to the game. Give him some time to learn!

He also walks onto a defense with fellow big men Parayko and Broberg, and longtooth veterans Fowler and Faulk. At his age and experience level there are going to be bumps in the road but his upside potential is considerable (until it isn't). He's essentially a top-16 quality draft pick that fell due to a non-hockey issue. The ingredients are there, the cake mix needs to be stirred and baked.

This is where I believe age plays a role. I've seen a lot of guys come and go over the years, I don't panic when someone gets traded or moves on. Hey, I had to get over the Berenson trade for Unger.

I liked Bolduc, too. Doing some roster calculus here, he wasn't moving up past Buchnevich, Snuggerud, Holloway, or Kyrou. That, with all the prospects behind him, is what made him tradeable. Numbers. Other guys coming up that can shoot the puck, too.

Agreed even though there's a big IF in your comment. It seems that the Blues wanted to draft him but stayed away for obvious reasons, but clearly they have done the homework and think he's the right fit. And all the best to Bolduc and the Blues moving forward.

You're insight here is reassuring to myself personally. My initial reaction to the trade was very negative. I loved what bolduc brought to the table, but we acquired what i hope is a unicorn. Time will tell. LGB!

People who know more than Blues management have already made up their mind, they want to be right more than they want to give the kid a chance.

I thought I was the only one crushed by that, and losing Tim Ecclestone in the same trade OMG !!!! Ecclestone was one of my faves at the time.

ROR = Pius Suter
Bozak = Nick Bjugstad
Pietrangelo = Mailloux

Super close to 2019, maybe a hair's breadth but that's just nuance ...

GOAT GM
GOAT offseason

Snak, snark. There is no ROR here, the Blues still have Schenn and now Thomas at 1C. Suter is really the Bozak here, versatile veteran middle-6 C/W or W/C. Bjugstad is a big bottom 6, perhaps an offensive upgrade at that level. Mailloux is comparable to Dunn for this comparison, 3rd pairing guy who brings offense.

On paper these moves look good, I think it would be very hard to argue against the Suter signing because he can and likely would play wing or center and kill penalties. Bjugstad looks like backfill for Faksa leaving and a bar set for a guy like Peterson.

Suter figures to replace what the Blues got out of Bolduc last season with added versatility, less offensive upside potential. I think Army is looking for Mailloux to stick or mainly stick with the Blues and pop in about 10 goals with a role on the PP.

Pietrangelo doesn't belong is this exercise, his spot is Fowler (Parayko being Parayko). Broberg positionally and stylistically compares with Boumeester.

The 2019 team had eight savvy veteran forwards who pulled together and with help from four young guys got the job done. Last season's team battled hard but came up short, deep into 2OT. I would say they were a tad ahead of schedule, they will hopefully benefit from the additions this offseason.

Well said. Couldnt agree more. Last year was a team with a wide range of possibilities. This year is the same but with less questions. Mailloux could boom or bust just like broberg, but i like the situation mailloux is walking into a lot more.
