BUY or SELL ?
I think the players on the field are making a strong case ... to be sellers!

Re: BUY or SELL ?
Ever since they announced the re-set hasn't the answer really always been sell?

Re: BUY or SELL ?
What do they have to sell? 4 no trade clauses who don't want to move. They will likely still be in contention for wild card 24 games from now but poor tv deal prevents any Arenado/Goldschmidt type moves.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑02 Jul 2025 14:19 pm Ever since they announced the re-set hasn't the answer really always been sell?
I think they will stand pat unless they do fall out of contention and then maybe one or two no trade clause get waived and they sell.

Of course they have players to trade. It's been discussed to death.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑02 Jul 2025 14:24 pmWhat do they have to sell? 4 no trade clauses who don't want to move. Re: BUY or SELL ?
You do a combination of both.
If you have pending FA’s who you have NO intention of signing. You look to move them
for the best payback.
That....is the only “selling” you do.
You should always be looking to acquire players who enhance the team.
Deal from surplus.
They have some positional player depth.

Sell.
Put out the yard sale sign.
Easy. Obvious. Correct.

Re: BUY or SELL ?
The only realistic selling assets we have are Hesley, Maton, and Matz imo. You could sweeten the pot by attaching a Crooks or Davis in a deal.
Fedde and Mikolas have basically no value and one of them will probably be replaced in the rotation by McGreevy soon. Can maybe get some lottery prospect that never pans out, but that's about it. Not trading Fedde this offseason was a big mistake.
I wouldn't sell low on Walker and Gorman still has the power potential this roster is sorely needing so I'm out on those two pieces as well that I've seen thrown out there.
If I'm the GM I probably try to move one of Hesley, Maton, or Matz along with Crooks and try to get a decent haul of prospects. I don't see it being that exciting of a deadline as I think they will mostly stand pat and see if the team can continue treading above water and sneak into the playoffs.

Okay. Matz, Helsley and Fedde in last year of contract. Mikolas might waive the remaining 2 months although he may have family considerations causing him to want to stay.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑02 Jul 2025 14:34 pmOf course they have players to trade. What would we get?
Unlikely we fall completely out of contention in 24 games but I suppose it's possible.
Re: BUY or SELL ?
Beyond that for adding I don’t see it being a very exciting deadline either. I mean maybe one of the most high profile players that might be moved currently has a 6.98 ERA. It just doesn’t seem like a very good deadline to buy unless a surprise team really sells like the Twins, which I don’t see happening.Aday96 wrote: ↑02 Jul 2025 14:51 pm The only realistic selling assets we have are Hesley, Maton, and Matz imo. Re: BUY or SELL ?
Helsley, Matz and Maton have value and could bring a couple of decent prospect.
Fedde, doubtful he brings anything of value, maybe a longshot. But his departure would move McGreevy into the regular rotation. Net positive.
I think they can't trade Mikolas and he'll finish off the season here, though once Quinn Mathews is ready for the majors, they could DFA Mikolas. Despite his occasional brilliant outings, he's just too unpredictable for a veteran pitcher. Would be good to give Mathews some experience this year if possible.
I don't see them trading or acquiring any position players at the MLB level. Maybe trade a minor league position player in a package with one or more of the above pitchers to get better prospects.

Re: BUY or SELL ?
Hard to read the forum. It's either there is nothing out there to get, or our players aren't worth anything.
