The dream is that somehow some way the top four teams lose their minds and Ethan Holliday falls to the Cardinals

There's a very good sequence of events to where he falls to the Rockies. I think there's been more than a few mocks that have went that way. And if JJ can fall to #7, I think he could fall to #5. Now, most of them seem to think that there's no way that the Rockies, with their Holliday connection, pass on him, but the Rockies are dumb. Don't ever count out a dumb team's ability to do dumb things.

And, if you are conspiracy minded, we know that leagues can rig these things. Maybe MLB owes BDWII a favor.

there still might be a chance a Irish or a Witherspoon sneaks into the Top 5. Teams always look for the underslot when the draft is weak up top.

Would not be shocked if Hernandez goes to Rockies. They see what a boost that Skeenes has done for Pittsburgh national attention. Hernandez can be that type of pitcher in a couple of years. Seattle does not want to spend its max on the third pick due to they don’t view the talent worth it. If they can get a player to accept the @$7.5 million minimum that would save them $2 million extra to use. They may convince one of the highly rated hs players to put out the word as to needing @$5 million to sign and have him fall to them at #35.

Jim Callis (MLB.com) did at Top 10 mock based off the teams "NEED"

here it is

https://www.mlb.com/news/top-10-picks-o ... ed-on-need

Liam Doyle, LHP, Tennessee

he says we're heavier on future hitting than pitching at the moment.

That’s probably fair, with the way that Wetherholt, Bernal, Baez, Rodriguez, Padilla, etc. have hit this year. Plus the questions about Hence over stamina/injuries, Mathews somewhat struggles in AAA, and Roby’s talent but also injury issues of the past and really beyond them is there anyone else that seems like a surefire future MLB starter? Ixan has had a nice year, not sure how his MLB future role is though.

The Hernandez interview was impressive. I now really want him for the Cardinals.

the guys fastball and command of the pitch is amazing. The other pitches leave you wanting. He scares me and intrigues at the same time. The Reliever floor makes me queasy.

For me, baseball is just as much mental as athletic compared to many of the other team sports such as basketball/football as they seem to focus on athletic gifts more than understanding of the game. In baseball, I want to know skill and many times I've seen some of the better players recently come from big baseball bloodlines (Holliday/Witts/Bichette/guerrero, etc.). While unlikely to land Holliday as doubt he would slide this far, and doubtful it seems Cards go after Hernandez for whatever reason, would love to see us draft someone like WIllits that comes from the playing/coaching, or someone that has been through a lot such as JoJo Parker (dad has spinal injury).

Jim Callis' turn this week

And we get.... Ike Irish, RF/LF/C, Auburn

clearly an underslot deal, but it's one I've talked about at length. It opens up the wallet for later in the evening with our other 3 picks on Day 1. I do like this strategy. And Irish can HIT.

I think the Ike Irish pick would be brilliant. He didn’t turn in his medicals at the combine. So whoever drafts him, can offer him 75% of the draft slot allocation. If he doesn’t sign the deal, the cards will get the number 4 or 6 pick in next years draft. Which is an extremely strong draft class. I believe it’s the only way they can pick in the top ten next year. It is a win win. If he signs the contract, you have a couple mil to throw at high school kids in rounds 2-5. Plus, Irish is a stud.

Dylan Carlson came from a baseball coaching family.
