"Pierre McGuire on The Sick Podcast with Tony Marinaro says Evan Bouchard just signed for 4x10.5, asks do you think there is a huge separation point from Evan Bouchard 4 years ago to Logan Mailloux now? Says not even close, they are about the same player."
If he's right and the Blues got a younger Bouchard, they fleeced the Habs. Will come with some growing pains, but would be great.

Re: Pierre McGuire on The Sick Podcast
I'll be honest.........I think Broberg is going to be elite in a year or two. The way he moves, his hockey sense..........IF LM ends up being almost as good as Broberg it's a big win.
Re: Pierre McGuire on The Sick Podcast
Yea I get the impression that LM's ceiling is Bouchard. Certainly has value

Re: Pierre McGuire on The Sick Podcast
Montreal beat writer today on 101 says if Mailloux develops higher IQ/d awareness he could be a star NHL defenseman. Thats a critical part of being a good NHL dman but even with somewhat lacking positional awareness his raw skill will make Mailloux a good defender. This was the gist of it

I've said this in other threads. Mailloux is a nice get. I have zero problems with adding that horse to the stable. HOWEVER, Bolduc was the absolute wrong piece for a couple reasons:noted wrote: ↑02 Jul 2025 10:20 am https://x.com/NHL_Watcher/status/1940236927330124145

1. It will be 2-3 years before Mailloux is hitting his prime - his Bouchard value. By that time, I believe Bolduc will be the far better player between himself and Kyrou.
2. Agreed that Kyrou for Mailloux is not a good trade either, but there were other options, including getting a slightly bigger package back from MTL for Kyrou OR dipping into your AHL talent waiting in the wings (e.g. Stenberg, etc.).
Re: Pierre McGuire on The Sick Podcast
Yeah I find it hard to believe MTL demanded one of our young already proven forward studs for 8 game NHL experience Mailloux. You would think that a Stenberg and a 2nd-3rd would have been fair.WilliamWestcliffe wrote: ↑02 Jul 2025 12:36 pmI've said this in other threads. Mailloux is a nice get. MTL drafted Mailloux when he ASKED not to be drafted!! The Blues along with many other teams passed because of that request. Then the apology from the MTL owners to their fans to go along with MTL picking up Dobson+loaded at defense… How the hell can all of that not bring Mailloux trade value way down???!!
Re: Pierre McGuire on The Sick Podcast
Well they can and did demand our young proven forward but that doesn't mean their 2nd best offer was anywhere close to that and I doubt it was. I think we blinked.stlblue06 wrote: ↑02 Jul 2025 12:52 pmYeah I find it hard to believe MTL demanded one of our young already proven forward studs for 8 game NHL experience Mailloux. Re: Pierre McGuire on The Sick Podcast
No offense here but Kyrou's ceiling (he might be close to it now) is much higher than Bolduc's. You can not love his game but he's a better player than Bolduc offensively and most likely will be for their entire careers. I wanted to see a C for Kyrou but let's not act like Bolduc will be better soon.WilliamWestcliffe wrote: ↑02 Jul 2025 12:36 pmI've said this in other threads. Mailloux is a nice get. Re: Pierre McGuire on The Sick Podcast
One is a proven goal scorer/point producer and one isn’t. I like Bolduc a lot but he is not in Kyrou’s class offensively. Bolduc is more physical but also takes too many dumb penalties.

Montreal wanted a roster player, not a prospect. They need scoring today on their NHL roster, not in 3 years.WilliamWestcliffe wrote: ↑02 Jul 2025 12:36 pmI've said this in other threads. Re: Pierre McGuire on The Sick Podcast
There is zero evidence so far that Bolduc will be better than Kyrou, Bolduc has done nothing in pro hockey (AHL, NHL) aside from a 2-3 month run at the end of last season under Monty, 7 PPGs, 12 EV. We see the talent level and the Blues are good at scouting and development so im pretty sure Bolduc is going to score. However, those around Mailloux in Montreal believe him to be NHL ready now and think he will be a very good player. All thinks equal the RHD 6'3" 215 lb kid has more value that a top 9 LW.WilliamWestcliffe wrote: ↑02 Jul 2025 12:36 pmI've said this in other threads. Mailloux is a nice get. Fact is Snuggerud and Kyrou are the Blues top 6 RW, Buch, Holloway and Neighbours on the other side this made Bolduc expendable. I for one am glad it was Bolduc and not Stenberg. Stenbergs international and AHL production are better than Bolducs at this early stage

Re: Pierre McGuire on The Sick Podcast
I agree, but believe if their skills are close, LM should be better. Bouchard is not the most clever of defensemen. This year he second-guessed himself too much in the finals. It is amazing how far world-class skills will get a hockey player.noted wrote: ↑02 Jul 2025 10:20 am https://x.com/NHL_Watcher/status/1940236927330124145

Apparently LM isn't a genius, but he is making mistakes that he could learn to overcome by the time he is Bouchard's age.

Right, what I meant is that I’d be shocked if Army really stood his ground or pressed long enough to be sure MTL wouldn’t take less or that there was a similar offer out there.skilles wrote: ↑02 Jul 2025 13:04 pmWell they can and did demand our young proven forward but that doesn't mean their 2nd best offer was anywhere close to that and I doubt it was. If they wanted/needed scoring now from a young 20s already well proven player that has a very high ceiling then you need to provide a player with some sort of a NHL track record (not 8 games). I get dmen take longer but at least a half of a season unless the guy is a top 10 pick with little question marks.
Bolduc’s value isn’t just based on what he showed last year but also in those last 2-3 months of the 2023-24 season. He was solid playing with scrubs then got put with Thomas for a 5 games and scored 4 goals. Throw in the fact that Bannister put him in zero position to succeed. Either a healthy scratch playing less than 10MIN a game.

Bolduc has some warts to his game. The warts can be considered major too.stlblue06 wrote: ↑02 Jul 2025 14:41 pmRight, what I meant is that I’d be shocked if Army really stood his ground or pressed long enough to be sure MTL wouldn’t take less or that there was a similar offer out there.skilles wrote: ↑02 Jul 2025 13:04 pmWell they can and did demand our young proven forward but that doesn't mean their 2nd best offer was anywhere close to that and I doubt it was. How do I know….because in game 7, I believe that he had the least amount of ice time on the entire team. It’s clear Monty didn’t trust him. You have to give to get and NO ONE has proof that Montreal ever wanted Kyrou or someone else. You have to believe that THIS was the only deal on the table. You either like it or you don’t.
