We can't do the "we need to trade for a right handed Dman" then when Army does immediately go "not like that"
It's a gamble. The Blues took on more risk. I don't see how you deny either of those two things.
Were we getting a young right handed dman for our scraps? No
If we were getting anything of substance something of substance was going to have to go the other way.
I mean if all we needed was a RHD man and didn't want to give up anything, make the trade with the Isles for Scott Mayfield and call it a day, but that doesn't do anything for us.
We weren't trading Snuggerud, we couldn't trade Buch or Kyrou, we weren't trading Dvorsky, we weren't trading Neighbours, and Montreal obviously wanted someone who was an NHL body. Who does that leave?
Logan Mailloux is coming!!

If not now, when? Are there are all of a sudden going to be a surplus of RHDmen available that the entire league isn't aware of?MiamiLaw wrote: ↑01 Jul 2025 17:02 pmWhy does it need to be MTL? Why does it need to be now? The problem with what you're asking is that it assumes the Blues needed to make a trade for a RHD right now and it had to be with the Habs. I certainly did not say anything about trading scraps for value. Like I said, replace Bolduc with Stenberg and I am saying what you're saying.TheJackBurton wrote: ↑01 Jul 2025 16:57 pmOk let me ask it this way:MiamiLaw wrote: ↑01 Jul 2025 16:38 pmWhy? But I am 100% with skilles on this. The Blues overpaid. They took on more risk. Bolduc 100% has more value right now than LM. Like skilles said, if he proposes this trade yesterday, at least 90% of the board says he's a moron.
Is Faulk and Parayko going to all of a sudden get younger? Are we going to be drafting #1 overall and draft someone who can immediately step into the NHL?
The reason it was now is because he was available, we have a surplus of a position, we have numerous players coming up for a payday Bolduc being one of them.
We have no idea what next year looks like, we have no idea what 5 years from now looks like, what we do know is there was a young dman available for a serious position of need and it took another young player to get him. That''s it, that's all.

Traded the single most dynamic shooter we've had since Vladi for a dweeb that isn't even going to make the roster
Re: Logan Mailloux is coming!!
Well that's because it's a stupid question. I would have Givin them lots of options none of which would have been a young proven player.TheJackBurton wrote: ↑01 Jul 2025 17:02 pmYou keep saying no, yet have offered literally nothing else. You have the Blues roster at your fingertips, who would you have offered?
Re: Logan Mailloux is coming!!
Wow, long thread. I don't have the patience to catch up on all the posts.
I see a considerable amount of angst over this trade. First, there is risk involved in ANY trade. There was also risk involved with the Blues going into the season constrained in depth on RD, not to mention not having a prospect like Mailloux. This guy, like Dvorsky, was named to the AHL Top Prospects Team. Certainly he fell in the draft due to his "incident". As a prospect, he's a good one.
I cautioned a day or two ago not to fall in love with the young wingers because due to the surplus of talent there SOME of them are going to be traded. I can only imagine the angst if Neighbours was headed the other way.
In terms of roster construction a trade was in order. How it turns out depends on how Mailloux and the Blues perform moving forward. My next caution is don't expect immediate stardom, the young man has very little NHL experience. Quite possibly it might take a season or two for him to settle in and perform reliably in all situations. We don't want to be like Edmonton and give up on a keeper too soon. I also remember the first season or two of Pronger (yes, he was younger), a lot of rough edges. When he settled in, well, we've just seen Broberg step up, too, and Tucker. Don't judge the young man on first impressions in the NHL, it's a tough position to play.
At the end of the season Army alluded to Kaskimaki, Dvorsky, Peterson, and others knocking on the door. We'll soon see how ready they are to play in the NHL. Another thread asked whether the Blues were playing to win the Division or still building, the answer appears to be both.
This is a move for April, May, June, and next season forward.

Jack - Habs fans, that have seen LM play actual NHL minutes and know more about him than 99% of the people on this board are almost universally thrilled by this trade.
Do the good folks of MTL not know about RHD scarcity? No. They’re thrilled because they view Bolduc as the more valuable player. Regardless of need, if they lost someone they all thought was going to be a great player, they would not be dancing.

They saw him play a total of 105 minutes. If we based the trade on Bolducs first 105 minutes would we even be having this discussion?MiamiLaw wrote: ↑01 Jul 2025 17:10 pm Jack - Habs fans, that have seen LM play actual NHL minutes and know more about him than 99% of the people on this board are almost universally thrilled by this trade.

And I'm excited to have Mailloux. Fans are fans.
Listen the fact is we are basing this being an overpayment because of essentially 30 games.
Bolduc may have an exceptional career, and quite frankly I hope he does as he seems like a really great kid, but can we please stop acting like we traded a perennial 30 goal scorer?

Miller going for a 1st, 2nd, and prospect. Oh and getting 8 years and $60 mil. Oh and he plays in a spot where we already have a lot of depth.MiamiLaw wrote: ↑01 Jul 2025 13:36 pmSo just being right handed makes 8-game Mailloux significantly more valuable than a proven, young, Top 4 NHL dman like Miller? It is very hard for me to defend this trade at the moment. In hindsight, it may work out but it is still dumb.
This trade is getting HAMMERED in the hockey online forums as a big win for the Habs and loss for the Blues.
But sure, it would have been better to grab him.

Do you think that would be the case if they had not traded for Dobson? In the end it will all have to be proven on the ice, so the popular opinion means little, as I'm sure you know.MiamiLaw wrote: ↑01 Jul 2025 17:10 pm Jack - Habs fans, that have seen LM play actual NHL minutes and know more about him than 99% of the people on this board are almost universally thrilled by this trade.

Kind of like when the Blues traded Oshie. I was 100% in the camp that thought he needed to be traded but when I saw the return, I was not happy because I thought he should have returned more.
