Sounds like NYR is going to trade K Miller to the Canes for picks. But we lost Bolduc for an AHL gamble...honestly, I hate this trade more and more by the minute.
Miller is a lefty
So just being right handed makes 8-game Mailloux significantly more valuable than a proven, young, Top 4 NHL dman like Miller? It is very hard for me to defend this trade at the moment. In hindsight, it may work out but it is still dumb.
This trade is getting HAMMERED in the hockey online forums as a big win for the Habs and loss for the Blues.
You are far too smart to put any stock in the opinions of online forums. Rush to judgment before the paint dries is silly. This is like grading a pro sports draft the morning after the draft. Grade the draft 2-3 years from now. Same for this trade. I get it, I do, but the kid is 22, and yeah, he's got some [shirt]ty baggage, but they system gave him a second chance, thinking we should to. There are many variables in place here. Let's see how it all plays out.
I'll give you a non sports related example of something that is getting hammered that shouldn't and that's the plea that's going to happen tomorrow in the Kohlberger (sp) murder case. The Idaho college killings. This is what you and I do for a living. I don't know your area of specialty but that is mine. 4 convictions with life without in our system is a win for the people, it's a win for the victims and regardless of the amount of noise being created, especially by one of the victim's families, it's a win for the victims families. The fact that the shitheel is going to sodomy central until they take him out in a box is a great thing. The victims families wanted revenge and I get it, but they likely had no real handle on what they would have had to sit and listen to for months. The families wanted the death penalty but the death penalty is such a ridiculous endeavor in this country that the odds of it every happening and being carried out, from the verdict, thru appeals to an execution are small.
I'm not really sure what my point is other than the internet sucks and give the trade a chance.
I hear you but I would feel a lot better if there was even a decent minority saying "whoa, don't sleep on Mailloux" but not seeing that at all. Almost universally, they are saying what a lot are saying here.
The Blues were right on the money w The 4th Line Plug and Broberg, btw
Id say Mailloux is ready those are good AHL #s. Interesting the Blues wanted to draft him in '21 but he said he didnt want to be drafted. Wasnt aware of that angle.
"Doug Armstrong on Logan Mailloux during the '21 draft: "There was a request by the player not to be drafted, so we didn’t take him with our pick and then Montreal did. It’s a difficult situation. He’s a young man, and he made a mistake. Obviously, we’ve done our research on that."

Half of us didnt think Holloway (4th line plug) and Broberg were even worthy of the draft picks we sent the other way.....let this simmer and lets reconvene later next season, huh?
Half?
Holloway 14th overall
Broberg 8th overall
It was obvious these guys were not scrubs. They both performed in the playoffs.
The Blues took all the risk in the Mailloux for Bolduc deal. Montreal is very happy.
Lol, Bolduc is less than an established NHL player other than half of last season. As Army said its a hockey trade it hurts a bit to give something up. Blues have forwards, Blues have nothing, nothing on RHD after Parayko until Jiricek is ready which is years. Good trade, we'll circle back.
Mailloux even less than less than established NHL player. Comes with baggage regardless of how one feels about it. Offensive focused d man that struggles on the d side. The Blues wanted Dobson. Mtl signs Dobson. Mtl calls Army and convinces him to take their expendable and undesirable D prospect for Bolduc who is already taking NHL shifts and trending up.
No Dobson. No Bolduc.
I will be happy if I am proven wrong over time.
Expendable- Sure.
Undesirable- They wouldn't have ignored his request not to be drafted AND given him NHL games if he was undesirable. He'd have faded into obscurity like Kyle Beach did following the Blackhawks fiasco.
Maillioux is a very quality D prospect. He probably would have been a top 10 pick if not for the baggage.
As a prospect, he's every bit on the same level as a Broberg or David Jiricek(both of whom have changed teams in the last year).

Yea those are some pretty good numbers I'll give you that.
I expected a desperation move by Armstrong, and this is one of those.
That said, I don't think that this is a complete fleecing. Mailloux looks pretty impressive. I'll reserve judgement until I see him play.
I think this move tells us that Armstrong is less confident in Jiricek making it. That situation is what made this move extremely necessary and urgent.
And back to the point that we knew the Blues couldnt keep all the prospects we knew they would trade from a position of depth for RHD. Everyone was clamoring for it. I had mentioned Kyrou for Josh Anderson, Beck and Mailloux i thought that made sense from Army's stand point.
Obviously Feltrin and the Blues had targeted Mailloux in the draft and would have selected him so now i know the Blues know the kid and the chances of this being a very good move is highly likely.
One thing Army seems to be going for is size. Everybody they just signed is 6'3 or over. That's a good thing because this team was getting pushed around and bullied sometimes.
Wait I’m confused. Mailloux requested to all teams or just the Blues that he didn’t want to be drafted? Because of the pics he wanted to wait another year for it to calm down?

Yes, I believe he publicly asked not to be drafted but the Habs drafted him anyways.

Or that Jiricek may just need a few years to develop, and then RHD becomes a strength. Who knows, but he's dealing from a position of strength at this point to fill obvious needs. Let's just hope it works out for the Blues.

All teams.
He actually renounced himself from the Draft; and the Hab's took him anyway.
And then Bettman had to get involved to see if he'd be allowed to play in the NHL after the incident.
One thing that has not been considered or talked about is Monty's input in this. Of course we don't know his thoughts. BUT there is no way Army makes this trade without consulting Monty. He has too much respect for him & his knowledge of the game to do this apart from Monty's input. Does the coach have the final word? No, I'm not saying that. But I have to believe that Monty thought this trade was in the Blues' best interest!

Exactly. Worst case, we have too many RHDs in a couple years, and we can reap a Noah Dobson-esque haul.

Wow I either forgot or wasn’t paying attention. Without reading the article, does anyone know where he was projected to go in the draft before the controversy?

Given Monty's past; I'd imagine he'd a very big supporter of second chances(he wouldn't be in the NHL right now if not for a second chance).

Agreed. It would seem there is no doubt about that!
