Half of us didnt think Holloway (4th line plug) and Broberg were even worthy of the draft picks we sent the other way.....let this simmer and lets reconvene later next season, huh?
Half?
Holloway 14th overall
Broberg 8th overall
It was obvious these guys were not scrubs. They both performed in the playoffs.
The Blues took all the risk in the Mailloux for Bolduc deal. Montreal is very happy.

Doug Armstrong on acquiring Logan Mailloux: "He's an excellent skater, got an excellent shot. ... We think he's NHL-ready now. I talked to him, I told him he'll have the opportunity to ... he has a job now. It's his job to come into camp and keep it." #stlblues
Interesting. So clearly they’re already slotting him ahead of Kessel and at least one of Leddy/Tucker as well it seems. Pretty much have him penciled in as the 3RD.
Fowler-Parayko
Broberg-Faulk
Leddy/Tucker-Mailloux
Tucker/Leddy as the 7th?
Kessel…I suppose on the outside looking in again.
And of course, that’s how it looks as of today. Maybe they trade Leddy and then it looks a little clearer. Idk.

Lol, Bolduc is less than an established NHL player other than half of last season. As Army said its a hockey trade it hurts a bit to give something up. Blues have forwards, Blues have nothing, nothing on RHD after Parayko until Jiricek is ready which is years. Good trade, we'll circle back.

Can Mailloux have a a chance to replace Faulk?
This season? No. Eventually? Maybe.
As of now it seems the goal is for him to replace the rotation of Leddy/Tucker/Kessel/Perunovich/POJ etc that we had last season at the 3rd pairing RD spot.

According to Army, unless Mailloux loses his job"
Fowler CP
Broberg Faulk
Tucker Mailloux
likely one of Kessel or Leddy are dealt this summer

Sounds like NYR is going to trade K Miller to the Canes for picks. But we lost Bolduc for an AHL gamble...honestly, I hate this trade more and more by the minute.
Miller is a lefty
So just being right handed makes 8-game Mailloux significantly more valuable than a proven, young, Top 4 NHL dman like Miller? It is very hard for me to defend this trade at the moment. In hindsight, it may work out but it is still dumb.
This trade is getting HAMMERED in the hockey online forums as a big win for the Habs and loss for the Blues.
You are far too smart to put any stock in the opinions of online forums. Rush to judgment before the paint dries is silly. This is like grading a pro sports draft the morning after the draft. Grade the draft 2-3 years from now. Same for this trade. I get it, I do, but the kid is 22, and yeah, he's got some [shirt]ty baggage, but they system gave him a second chance, thinking we should to. There are many variables in place here. Let's see how it all plays out.
I'll give you a non sports related example of something that is getting hammered that shouldn't and that's the plea that's going to happen tomorrow in the Kohlberger (sp) murder case. The Idaho college killings. This is what you and I do for a living. I don't know your area of specialty but that is mine. 4 convictions with life without in our system is a win for the people, it's a win for the victims and regardless of the amount of noise being created, especially by one of the victim's families, it's a win for the victims families. The fact that the shitheel is going to sodomy central until they take him out in a box is a great thing. The victims families wanted revenge and I get it, but they likely had no real handle on what they would have had to sit and listen to for months. The families wanted the death penalty but the death penalty is such a ridiculous endeavor in this country that the odds of it every happening and being carried out, from the verdict, thru appeals to an execution are small.
I'm not really sure what my point is other than the internet sucks and give the trade a chance.
I hear you but I would feel a lot better if there was even a decent minority saying "whoa, don't sleep on Mailloux" but not seeing that at all. Almost universally, they are saying what a lot are saying here.

Hopefully he does well in the reduced role and the next deal is fairly cheap as well (this is his last year of his current entry level deal correct?) just wondering how money plays into this I would think in a vacuum Bolduc will get a bigger payday than Mailloux just based on NHL production and they’d rather plug a new winger in to keep the costs down there long term. If they can move Leddy it’s also more palatable

Mailloux even less than less than established NHL player. Comes with baggage regardless of how one feels about it. Offensive focused d man that struggles on the d side. The Blues wanted Dobson. Mtl signs Dobson. Mtl calls Army and convinces him to take their expendable and undesirable D prospect for Bolduc who is already taking NHL shifts and trending up.

I absolutely hate this move. I don’t like it from a hockey perspective. Bolduc is an established NHLer while Mailloux is still trying to fully make the jump. Only played 7 games for the Canadiens this season and was caved in defensively. He’s far from a sure bet IMO. I just absolutely hate it. I know he’s a RD and that’s a more valuable position than a winger but that doesn’t make up for the gap in value IMO. They were taken in the same draft - Bolduc was taken 14 spots higher and he’s shown he should’ve gone higher to date.
And then add in the off ice baggage/PR issues they’ll now have to deal with and…yuck. I just absolutely hate it on first reaction.
Bolduc is far from an established NHL player, he was absolutely terrible to start the year and healthy scratched. Which version of him is the real Bolduc? Playoff and early season Bolduc or the 40 game stretch he looked great?
There had to be a reason he was still getting 3rd line to sometimes 4th line ice time.
I get you not liking the trade because of the off ice issues but you can't say he looked terrible in the 7 games he played and ignore Bolduc's playoffs and start of the year.
It’s fair to say Bolduc was shaky to start the season and wasn’t very good in his first playoff series but he’s proven a lot more than Mailloux to date, that’s for sure! I just value Bolduc quite a bit more than Mailloux as of now. Maybe Mailloux will break out but I just hate it from a value standpoint.
The whole team was shaky so I don't see how someone gets off on singling out Bolduc

And I hear that, from you. Not the internet. I'm willing to give it time. I'm too much of a fan of this team. And the leadership group mostly gets the benefit of the doubt from me. Are they perfect, nope. They are not. But I'm willing to watch this play out.
Some things I do want to point out while the board and twitter proclaim Bolduc the second coming of Mark Messier. He had an awesome one half of a season. This happened while the entire team was on a roll. It was great to watch. Other than that? Invisible the first half of the year, he was scratched at least once if not more. As I posted earlier he was not good in the Jets series. Again, I'll chalk that up to being a rookie and hope he learned from it. He was a minus player and he didn't pot a goal. He took more than one really (bleep) poor and ill timed penalty in the series. And the nonsense about "he scored all those goals playing with Sunny and Dags and Cole and the 3rd, that's silly. I haven't looked but he got a ton of PP time, rightfully so. I suspect he is going to have a rock solid career in the middle 6. I'm ok with this trade today.
