Miller is a lefty
So just being right handed makes 8-game Mailloux significantly more valuable than a proven, young, Top 4 NHL dman like Miller? It is very hard for me to defend this trade at the moment. In hindsight, it may work out but it is still dumb.
In all honesty yes. The Rangers don't have the cap room, and he'd fallen out of favor with them. Personally I'm shocked they are trading him as I expected them to get past it and get him signed and dump a forward.

However, he's a lefty and there has been a surplus of them not only in UFA but in trades as well.

Right now any lefty looking for a big pay day just doesn't have value because they can get replaced pretty easily overall.
Then why is the almost universal opinion around the league that MTL won the trade? And why are NYR fans (upset)?
now before everyone freaks out, I'm just using this as a comparison of the reaction to the trade, not the players.

Everyone thought Hartford won the Shanahan-Pronger trade, time proved differently.

And he was productive
That’s not a measure and you know it. Guys don’t even know/care who he is at that point.

Might turn out to be productive but that’s not proof
He proved it in juniors, he proved it in the AHL and he's proven in his limited time in the NHL that he's a productive player.
He’s 22 and has played 8 games. Time will tell

Virtually everyone is short in these areas and you have to overpay in dollars or assets to try to plug the hole that your pipeline of prospects isn't. Hope Mailloux develops because I think Bolduc is going to be a consistent 25+ goal scorer who is comfortable playing a style of hockey that you need in the playoffs.
Doesnt that imply those critical positions just arent there at the draft? Like if everybody is after C and RD then everybody isnt drafting them .... because they arent there.

Its no surprise those 2 positions are always positions of need at the trade deadline and in free agency.

He was never going to start in the minors. His only competition is Kessel and Kessel is not a top 6 NHL dman.

If he doesnt make the team and Kessel does this will be an awful trade.

I'm aware of that, but we've already had people freaking out that he wouldn't.

You aren't trading Bolduc and stuffing him down in the minors. He'll have 3rd pairing duty until he starts showing improvement, and then likely start replacing Faulk.

With Leddy and Faulk already taking up all of the “rookie mistakes” any team hoping to make the playoffs can absorb, hopefully they at least get rid of Leddy. Sadly we can’t just get rid of Faulk without bringing someone in to fill the 4D spot.

Let’s see him beat Tucker for regular minutes before putting him up against Faulk.

Never a doubt he had a spot.

Army did trade for him.

Bolduc was a one of a kind.
While we have ten different versions of Schenn. With a pool for of them. I hate this trade.

It was easy to notice management had some type of issue with Bolduc. Clearly wasn't on the ice.

Not a fan of this deal at all.

Mailloux will be lucky to hold down a roster spot much less be worth tradng Bolduc.

This trade is getting HAMMERED in the hockey online forums as a big win for the Habs and loss for the Blues.
You are far too smart to put any stock in the opinions of online forums. Rush to judgment before the paint dries is silly. This is like grading a pro sports draft the morning after the draft. Grade the draft 2-3 years from now. Same for this trade. I get it, I do, but the kid is 22, and yeah, he's got some [shirt]ty baggage, but they system gave him a second chance, thinking we should to. There are many variables in place here. Let's see how it all plays out.

I'll give you a non sports related example of something that is getting hammered that shouldn't and that's the plea that's going to happen tomorrow in the Kohlberger (sp) murder case. The Idaho college killings. This is what you and I do for a living. I don't know your area of specialty but that is mine. 4 convictions with life without in our system is a win for the people, it's a win for the victims and regardless of the amount of noise being created, especially by one of the victim's families, it's a win for the victims families. The fact that the shitheel is going to sodomy central until they take him out in a box is a great thing. The victims families wanted revenge and I get it, but they likely had no real handle on what they would have had to sit and listen to for months. The families wanted the death penalty but the death penalty is such a ridiculous endeavor in this country that the odds of it every happening and being carried out, from the verdict, thru appeals to an execution are small.

I'm not really sure what my point is other than the internet sucks and give the trade a chance.

Half of us didnt think Holloway (4th line plug) and Broberg were even worthy of the draft picks we sent the other way.....let this simmer and lets reconvene later next season, huh?

Spot on.

We have added a guy who will potentially be in our top 4 within 2 years. We have nobody in the system that we can say that about (on the right side).

We traded a guy who would potentially be in our top 6 in 2 years. We have a number of players in the system that can be said about.

I like Bolduc but i can totally see the logic behind this deal. Doesnt mean it will work out (i hope it does) but it does make sense.
