Lots of trades can be described as "Ouch". Or did you expect another team to give us a top prospect RHD for a 6th round pick in 2028?
This doesn't make the Blues a better team next season but I'll withhold total judgement until opening day.

We’re giving up a good one in Bolduc.
But Mailloux could legitimately turn into the next Dobson. We’re going to have to wait and see. Value wise, I think it’s about even.
Good take, the value is about even at this moment and Mailloux could be a franchise RD
Really? Where has he been described as a potential "franchise" RD? Most scouting reports put him as a Top 4 defender (mostly second pairing).
Most striking comment on Logan from a habs fan -- "he is Sheldon Souray Incarnate" --- makes sense from what I have heard so far --- banger who is offensively superior with great shot -- suffers from poor decisionmaking on D with boneheaded plays -- slow on the pivot. That kinda sums up Sheldon to a T. Having said that -- would not have minded him on the Note back in the day.
If he can make an impact on a consistent basis playing top 4 minutes and powerplay, he could be a very valuable piece. Agree on Souray. A guy who was noticeable most games he played in.

Just saying at the same age Dobson put up 51 points in the NHL.

I love picking up Mailloux but not for Bolduc
who then?
Someone promising but unproven.

I really don't think they get anything close to that from anyone else with the related baggage.

Is he worth tge valuable trading chip? Time will tell. I honestly dont know, and neither does anyone else, but I do respect those whose opinion is cautious and/or are against the move. But the reality is that he probably wouldn’t even be available if not for his dumb mistake. I hope he’s learned from it and puts it behind him and becomes the stud alot of people think he’ll be.
I'm with you there for sure. Hoping for his success
You and me both *handshake*

And Im the guy who’s been very critical of Army in the past, but I give him major props for taking this gamble. It could backfire on him, but he’s really rebounded in my eyes for dismantling the Cup team too soon IMO. The past couple years have realky been impressive, and for all of our sakes..I hope this is another feather in his cap.

It’s not looking good from a defensive standpoint for him.

That’s not good.

Blues don’t really have top defenders moving forward outside of Parayko

Only played 7 games for the Canadiens this season and was caved in defensively. He’s far from a sure bet IMO. I just absolutely hate it. I know he’s a RD and that’s a more valuable position than a winger but that doesn’t make up for the gap in value IMO. They were taken in the same draft - Bolduc was taken 14 spots higher and he’s shown he should’ve gone higher to date.

And then add in the off ice baggage/PR issues they’ll now have to deal with and…yuck. I just absolutely hate it on first reaction.
Bolduc is far from an established NHL player, he was absolutely terrible to start the year and healthy scratched. Which version of him is the real Bolduc? Playoff and early season Bolduc or the 40 game stretch he looked great?

There had to be a reason he was still getting 3rd line to sometimes 4th line ice time.

I get you not liking the trade because of the off ice issues but you can't say he looked terrible in the 7 games he played and ignore Bolduc's playoffs and start of the year.

Why would Montreal want him though? They are looking to make the playoffs this year, trading for a player who has no NHL experience at all and is still likely a year away does nothing for them.

Isn't that essentially what the Blues just did despite being in a similar boat?

Not really. We have 2 RHD that we can easily run out there for the entire year.

Mailloux can come in, play 3rd RHD, learn the game and get better as the season progresses.

We can afford for him to make mistakes in the 12-14 minutes a game he'll get.

Montreal needs goals and needs them this year. They weren't going to get that with someone who is a year away from the NHL.

Theres also the bigger picture issue that isnt getting mentioned is, Army would have to had to pay Bolduc as well after this year. Assuming Bolduc nets 20-25 which i think he will, what salary would he command? $6 mil? Holloway, Fowler, Broberg, who every else Army signs all also get paid next year too. Im not sure there is pay roll space for another pricey forward when Army needs center and RD help now

Just curious, where would you rank him in our prospect pool? I know he played a few games last year, do you think he's ready for a full year with the big club?
The honest answer is I’d have to watch more of him but initial gut reaction would be around 6th?

Clearly after Dvorsky, Snuggerud, Lindstein, Carbonneau and Stenberg. But right there with Jiricek in terms of value/potential IMO.

We traded Bolduc, a guy that was a prospect a year ago but is now an established NHLer, for Montreal’s approx. 6th best prospect. If we had gotten Reinbacher instead I'd like it. That would’ve been a good risk/reward bet. But I just don’t like the value of this trade at all right now.

Yep Mailloux could start in the AHL which isnt a big deal. Kessel and Tucker are not waivers exempt

Montreal fans are psyched by Bolduc partly by the misimpression that they can play him at center. They are still stuck with Dach as their no 2 center. Bolduc will slot into their third line with Evans and maybe Demidov moving down. Second unit power play.
