I'll be the one to give the ridiculous cynical reply. I will preface this by saying if this is legit I hope the man is able to live a nice quality of life post career, have mobility and is able to enjoy those triplets.
That being said I firmly believe that around Thursday April 23, 2026 I expect to see a release from Petro/Vegas that reads "after 10 long months of surgery, physical therapy, rest and training I am ready to give my career one last try before retiring. Therefore I am going to attempt to rejoin my teammates in the playoffs. The joy of being around the boys competing for the greatest trophy in sports was worth the countless hours of training and getting better. I want to thank the Knights organization and the fans of this great team for the support I've received since my announcement last June."
The timing of this is just too (bleep) close to the Marner activity and it still boggles my mind that this took two months to figure out. They were eliminated from the playoffs in mid May. It's all just a bit too convenient. We will see next April.
Surprise! Looks like Petro's calling it a career.

No one in STL would ever hate on Petro if it weren't for one lunatic who's probably standing on a ledge somewhere right about now. Petro was a fantastic Blue, captain, and a great guy as far as I could tell from every interview.Backesdraft wrote: ↑30 Jun 2025 20:22 pmNot hating on Petro, but I will hate on Vegas. Their circumventing of the rules is so blatant…if I were an NHL executive or - gasp - the Commissioner, I’d be effing offended.TAFKAP wrote: ↑30 Jun 2025 19:44 pm He's hoping to just get back to a "Normal quality of life".
So glad we didn't sign him. Good luck in life my dude. Enjoy the Torey Krug retirement plan

Sad to see him retired. Not sad it's killing someone whom we all know. hehe!
P.S. wouldn't surprise me one bit if he tries to return to Vegas for one final playoff push.

Are we supposed to feel sorry for him?
This whole deal fits his personality perfectly.
